Do anti-inflammatory drugs increase your likelihood for long-term pain?

Just finished reading this article "Acute inflammatory response via neutrophil activation protects against the development of chronic pain" in Science Translational Medicine, which was featured in Massage Therapy Canada magazine.

The findings align with what I have always believed. Inflammation, while painful, is a fundamental part of the healing process and eliminating it with drugs is likely not a good idea.

The authors assert that one of the functions of inflammation is pain resolution. Drugs like Ibuprofen reduce the number of neutrophils (white blood cells) responding to the injury and resolving the pain. They noted that Acetaminophen had no impact.

This study proposes further testing and this post is not medical advice. You should consult with a doctor or pharmacist for further advice.
