Five years ago, I had no idea where life would take me. I made a big decision to leave behind my “golden handcuff” job at the paper mill in Port Alberni. While it offered stability, it kept me on shift work and away from the lifestyle I wanted to build with my partner. I knew I needed something more—something fulfilling, creative, and connected to community.

When I started looking for new paths, I surprised myself. I applied to both heavy-duty mechanics and the hairstyling program at VIU. In the end, my heart chose hairstyling—a career where I could create, connect, and carve out a schedule that allowed me to show up fully in life.

I’ll admit, it wasn’t easy at first. Putting myself out there, building confidence, and trusting my skills were all challenges. But through this journey, I’ve grown not only as a hairstylist but as a person. One of the greatest joys of my work is the conversations and stories I get to share with people in my chair. Every client brings something unique, and I truly cherish the chance to make someone feel seen, heard, and a little brighter when they leave.

My past work experiences may have been diverse, but they’ve all given me the gift of connecting with people from all walks of life. I don’t expect to be the perfect fit for everyone, but I’m always open, excited, and grateful to meet new people and build genuine connections through my craft.

Here’s to many more stories, connections, and transformations—inside and out.

After discussing options, the decision was made to start slow with a low/no maintenance colour.
To keep it feeling natural we matched the existing dark hair. Fine weaves and slices were used to allow a subtle grow out.
