Bee feeding frenzy ๐
After the honey gets extracted the boxes are still sticky. I haul the wet supers out and let the bees lick up whatโs left.

Pretty proud of this one
2nd place for our liquid honey at the Orono Fair for the second year in a row!
Last year we also took 1st place for our creamed honey.
Thereโs a lot of work that goes into every jar, from looking after the bees to pulling supers extracting and bottling. Always nice to get some recognition

52 supers pulled from the Trulls Rd apiary ๐ฏ๐ A little lighter than I was expecting, but thatโs one yard down with two more apiaries still to go.

These bees are "washboarding" a strange behavior where worker bees move back and forth in synchronized patterns on the front of the hive.
This swarm did, in fact, have a queen. I found her in the grass, surrounded by just a handful of loyal worker bees after she was unable to take flight with the rest of the swarm. Once she was safely reunited, the entire swarm followed her into their new home.
Swarming is a natural part of a healthy colony's life cycle. When the queen moves, the bees move with her it's an incredible thing to witness.
Swarms are one of nature's most fascinating events, and they're usually much calmer than people think.
๐ Homegrown June queens are the best! Golden queens raised right here in Ontario. ๐๐ฏ
Dealing with swarms is just a part of beekeeping. ๐
When a colony gets strong, sometimes they decide it's time to find a new home. Luckily, this swarm chose one of our apple trees, making the catch a little easier.beekeeping

Opening up the path to one of my apiaries. Hard to beat an evening like this. ๐
Evening walk around the property. The fruit trees are growing, the strawberries are filling in, the potatoes are up, and the bees are bringing in nectar. Lots of work left to do, but it's nice seeing everything coming together.
