week 1 recap and i genuinely don't know how to describe it other than: a lot. like, a LOT a lot.

i hauled supplies all week last week in the rain. rushed to move spaces while juggling one car & opposite work schedules from my husband & taking care of jack.

organized and reorganized the same shelf three times. i second-guessed the wall colour for about 48 hours straight (it's perfect, i know, i know).

and somewhere in the middle of all that chaos, i sat across from clients i've known for years AND clients who had never met me before, and just... did nails. in MY space. that i built.

some of my long term clients showed up that first week and i cannot tell you what that means. you followed me here and i don't take that lightly. and the new faces who took a chance on a brand new studio? gorgeous. thank you.

the suite isn't fully finished. my feet hurt. i'm tired in the best possible way.

but damn. it's mine.

you've been told your nails are "just like that." that you're a bad candidate for extensions. that you're too hard on them, too impatient, too whatever. and you've believed it because nobody ever stopped to explain what was actually going on.

lifting at the cuticle isn't bad nails, it's a prep issue. peeling layers isn't weakness, it's dehydration. constant breaking isn't your fault, it's usually length or shape that isn't working WITH your hands. greenies aren't the end of the world, they just need to be addressed properly instead of covered up and ignored.

ten years of doing this and the thing i hear most often from new clients is "i didn't know that." i want to change that. your nails aren't difficult. they're just not being heard.

i've been in this industry for 10 years and some of the advice i was given early on genuinely set me back. not because the people giving it were wrong, but because it got repeated so many times it became gospel and nobody stopped to question whether it was actually true.

like the "post every day" thing ... it almost burned me out before my business even got off the ground. the "say yes to everyone" thing nearly cost me clients i actually loved. the cheap product thing, i won't get into it but i will say i will never regret investing in premium products with rigorous testing.

none of this is shade toward other techs. we're all working & doing the best we can with the information we have. but if you've been following the standard playbook and something keeps feeling off, it might not be you. it might be the playbook.
