Dadji, a year has come and gone since you departed from this world. They say time is a healer, but I’ve come to realise that it’s not healing that occurs, but rather a gradual acceptance and adjustment to a life without your physical presence.

Canada is a country that I now call my home. As much as it pains me to be away from the family, especially today, I see glimpses of you in the beauty that surrounds me everyday, from the majestic mountains to the calming waves of the beach, and even in the tranquility of the garden. Your unwavering support and guidance paved the way for me to make this move to Canada, a journey that I could not have done without your support and belief in me.

Your teachings, whether it be a brief chat or a just one powerful sentence, resonates within me like a guiding light. Your words of love, forgiveness, and resilience have become the pillars on which I lean, shaping my actions and decisions each day. The memories of our conversations, filled with your wisdom and humor, are etched in my mind and heart forever. Your ability to find humor in life, especially through those cheesy dad jokes, has been a source of joy and comfort for me. I find myself emulating your style of humor, and I can almost hear your laughter echoing alongside mine as I tell those jokes.

The void left by your absence is extremely heavy and profound, but the warmth of your love and the strength of your spirit continue to envelop me. I take comfort in the belief that your presence is felt around me, guiding and watching over me every step of the way. Kim mentioned something, that she believes reuniting with you when our time on this earth is done, that brings me a sense of peace and hope. Until that day comes, I will carry your legacy of love, laughter, and resilience with me always. Missing you deeply, but I’m learning to live with the memories and the laughter we shared, I’m so lucky and forever grateful my childhood and adult life was filled with so much substance because of you. Me, the kids and Jot are proud of the dad and grandad you are. Thank you for all you have done and for all you continue to do. Your legacy will continue… 🤍 🙏🏽 🕊️

🌟 Reflecting on the year that has passed, I can’t help but acknowledge the immense challenges and emotional turmoil that 2023 brought into mine and my families life. It was a year that tested our strength and resilience in ways we never thought possible.

However, as I look around and witness the conflicts and struggles happening in different parts of the world, particularly in Palestine, I am reminded of the richness that still exists within my own life.

This past year, my family and I faced the devastating news of my father’s diagnosis. It was a curse that we couldn’t escape, knowing that the inevitable would eventually happen any day now. The pain and heartache that came with it were unimaginable.

But among the darkness, an odd blessing emerged. We were given the precious gift of time. Time to come together as a family, time to express our love and gratitude, and time to say everything we ever wanted to say to my dad. It was an opportunity that not everyone gets, and for that, I am filled with profound gratitude.

As we step into 2024, I carry this gratitude in my heart. I am grateful for the moments of togetherness, for the conversations shared, and for the chance to create lasting memories. It is a reminder that even in the face of grief, there is still beauty to be found.

While the conflicts in the world continue to unfold, I am reminded of the importance of cherishing the blessings we have in our lives. Let us not take for granted the love and warmth of our families and friends, and the opportunities that come our way.

As we walk into this new year, let us carry the lessons learned from our own personal journeys and extend our compassion and support to those who are facing their own battles. Together, let us strive for a world filled with peace, understanding, and unity.

May 2024 be a year of healing, growth, and gratitude for all of us. Let us embrace the richness of life and make every moment count. From my family to yours, Happy New Year!🌟
