BOX DYE VS. HAIR STYLIST KATIE

This colour correction was completed in under 3 hours using strategic colour theory, thoughtful formulation, and a whole lot of trust in the process.

First things first—we assessed the health of the hair and what it could realistically handle. Since this guest had box dyed her hair twice at home, we knew we were dealing with multiple levels and layers of artificial pigment. was used throughout the service to help protect the hair during lightening.

🤎Starting canvas:• Roots: Level 8• Mid-lengths: Level 6-7 with darker bands• Ends: Level 6 with some old highlights

Our goal was to create an even canvas by lifting the mids and ends to match the lighter root area.

We balayaged the mids and ends using BLONDE IG and 20 volume, carefully targeting only what needed to be lifted. Between the foils, we added .redheadry 6N + 7G to maintain softness, fill the hair, and create natural dimension.

Once everything lifted evenly, we rinsed and glossed with Shades EQ 7G + 9N/9GI/9V for a pigment fill, shine, and balance. ✨

To finish, we WET reverse balayaged and lowlighted using to add depth, movement, and that lived-in brunette dimension everyone loves.

Finished with a hydration treatment + K18, and here’s the final result. 🤎

Colour corrections don’t always require 8-hour appointments. Sometimes understanding colour theory, proper formulation, and working with the hair—not against it—is the real magic.

I’m a hairstylist, salon owner, creative soul, and single mama to the sweetest almost 4-year-old little boy, Campbell. Life lately has been a lot of rebuilding, rediscovering myself, protecting my peace, and creating a beautiful new life for us — one that feels lighter, happier, softer, and genuinely exciting again.
