Hey Duncan,
I’m calling out to those who live around Queens Rd, Ypres St and Coronation Ave, or even commute through this area everyday.
The plan is to turn Queens Rd into a one way going into downtown and a small part of Coronation between Ypres and Brae into a one way going out of downtown. I have a business on Queens Rd and we were not aware of this until it was already approved and moving ahead. I also asked some of my neighbours in the area and they were also not aware. I’m not saying that notices didn’t go out and the City didn’t hold meetings, I’m just pointing out that a good amount of people around here were not aware.
I’m all for bike lanes and beautifying the neighborhood, but as a business owner on Queens for 13 years, we and other businesses are about to lose 12 parking spots on one side of the street and with the construction and longterm loss of parking, we expect to lose some clients and are very worried we will either have to move or lose our business. We consider our small family run salon/barbershop affordable, and if we have to move, that means our prices will need to increase and we will lose even more valuable clients who come to us not only because we are affordable but also because we are very accessible for seniors and people with diversabilities.
If you have concerns with this plan, please write to Duncan City Council to let them know at [email protected]
