Most curl challenges start with what your hair is missing. And for most people, what it’s missing is water.
Tamara had been reclining in my shampoo bowl, warm towel over her eyes, moisture treatment doing its work.
When I lifted the towel and started squishing through her hair, I could feel it right away.
Some squish. But not enough.
“I’m going to come in and push more water through.”
“Oh, okay.”
That’s it. No resistance. Just trust.
Because here’s what I’ve learned over 30 years behind the chair, curlfriends: most people come in thinking they have a product problem. The wrong gel. The wrong curl cream. The wrong leave-in.
But when I get my hands in their hair, nine times out of ten, it’s not a product problem at all.
It’s a water problem.
Curly hair is drier by nature. It needs water. Real hydration. And when it’s not getting it, nothing you put on top is going to fix it. The products just sit there.
But when you start making your hair take a drink? When you push that water in and you listen for the squish?
That’s when everything changes.
That’s exactly what we work on in your Curl Discovery Cut. Finding out what your hair is actually missing and teaching you how to give it that at home.

Nobody told me that my best hair was still ahead of me.
For most of my adult life my hair wouldn’t grow past my shoulders. It would get there and just fall apart. Too damaged. Too dry. Too broken to go any further. So I’d cut it off and start again.
I just accepted that was my hair. That was as good as it was going to get.
Then I watched my daughter Kayla figure out her curls.
She was about fifteen, online, researching, learning how to encourage what her hair was actually trying to do. And I watched her because I knew her hair was exactly like mine.
So I started looking for the same answers.
But unlike my clients, I didn’t have somebody to teach me everything in one sitting. I had to go find it myself. One step at a time. One small change at a time.
And every single step I added, my hair got better.
It stopped breaking. It started growing. It got fuller and healthier and more beautiful than it had ever been.
That’s me between clients right there. Day three hair. Waist length.
And as I figured it out for myself, I started bringing it to my clients. Watching it work in their hair too. Seeing their curl get better and better.
Everything I teach, I lived first.
