A clean drugstore mouthguard is still better than nothing if you’re in a pinch.

That said, it’s not a perfect substitute:
🦷 It’s not as secure, so it can be harder to keep in while you sleep.
🦷 It doesn’t distribute your bite evenly, which means some teeth may take on more pressure and still end up sore.

If you grind or clench regularly, a custom night guard is always the best option for protecting your smile long-term.
