Even a makeup artist bride finds things she never thought to prep for.

Here's a little bit of what I'm doing to get ready for my big day:

My hair is on the finer side, so I already bought clip-in extensions to make sure it holds up through a full day of hugging and dancing.

Skincare treatments are next on my list.

It's a strange feeling picking things out for my own face after doing it for other brides for nineteen years, but I want the same thing for myself that I want for every bride in my chair:

to look like me, just more done up.

What's one thing you didn't expect to add to your own wedding prep list?

Taking the extra steps during prep can completely change the final product! This is especially true when you need makeup that will hold up all day.

Oily skin usually means bigger pores and dehydration happening at the same time, so I exfoliate and hydrate first, then bring in products that control oil and blur pores, plus a powder built for oilier skin.

Dry and mature skin gets extra layers of hydration and a foundation made for it. If it needs more, I'll mix in a hydrating oil or use it straight as a primer.

Redness gets a green primer where it's needed, a foundation with enough warmth to balance it, and I always blend down into the neck and chest so nothing looks separate from the rest of you.

Nobody warned me a wedding budget grows by a hundred tiny decisions instead of a few big ones.

I've spent nineteen years telling brides that planning takes longer than they think, and now that I'm on the other side of it, I finally get what I meant.

It worked for the time, but my whole approach has changed since then, starting with how much time I spend on skin before a single product goes on.
