Throwback to Devon's testimony and amazing result.

Working with Devon on his hair restoration journey was an absolute privilege for Dr. Sharma and our entire team.
Devon was a phenomenal patient from day one. He followed all of his post-op care instructions meticulously and truly trusted the process through every stage of healing and growth—and as you can see, that dedication paid off.

This procedure was performed by Dr. Sharma prior to our official rebrand to Canadian Hair Transplant Centre. Looking back at transformations like this reminds us why we love the work we do.

A massive thank you to Devon for trusting us with his results and allowing us to share his story, and a heartfelt thank you to all of our incredible patients who walk through our doors. We have so much more to share with you all—stay tuned!

The Clinical Reality of TRT and DHT Blockers

For patients undergoing Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT), a common clinical concern is the acceleration of androgenetic alopecia (male pattern baldness).

This leads to a frequent clinical question: Can you safely co-administer 5α-reductase inhibitors like Finasteride or Dutasteride alongside TRT to protect the hair follicle?

The concern for many is whether blocking Dihydrotestosterone (DHT)—a highly potent androgen—will inadvertently blunt the therapeutic benefits of testosterone on muscle mass, strength, and libido.

In our latest video, Dr. Sharma reviews a landmark, five-year randomized controlled trial published in JAMA (The Journal of the American Medical Association) that investigated this exact interaction.

The Clinical Dilemma
When exogenous testosterone is introduced, the 5α-reductase enzyme converts a portion of it into DHT. While DHT is a primary driver of hair follicle miniaturization and prostate enlargement, its precise role in mediating testosterone's positive effects on skeletal muscle, erythropoiesis, and sexual function has historically been poorly understood.

If DHT is the primary mediator of these physiological benefits, blocking its conversion should theoretically attenuate the efficacy of TRT.

The JAMA study evaluated healthy men receiving Testosterone Enanthate paired with either a placebo or Dutasteride (a powerful dual-inhibitor of 5α-reductase).

The findings offer critical, evidence-based insights for anyone looking to optimize their hormone therapy while managing dermatological side effects. Dr. Sharma breaks down the data, the physiological outcomes, and how we approach this balance clinically at CHTC.

DHTBlocker MalePatternBaldness

Many men are unaware that a sparse or patchy beard can be clinically treated. Today, facial hair transplantation is a highly sought-after procedure for addressing gaps caused by genetics, aging, or tissue injury.

At the Canadian Hair Transplant Centre in Edmonton, Dr. Sharma utilizes precise micro-surgical techniques to transplant healthy follicular units from the scalp into the facial region. Achieving a seamless, natural appearance requires a strict understanding of facial anatomy—including jaw width and natural hair angulation—to ensure proper graft survival and undetectable blending.

Key Technical Elements:

Physician-Led Execution: Dr. Sharma personally performs every extraction and placement using manual 0.6 to 0.7 mm tools to protect the surrounding tissue.

Microscopic Inspection: Grafts undergo a 4-point viability check to ensure optimal growth.

High-Density Mapping: Advanced preoperative mapping allows for precise placement of up to 60 grafts per square centimeter ($60\text{ grafts/cm}^2$).

To evaluate your donor hair quality and discuss a customized surgical layout based on your anatomy, book a medical consultation at our Edmonton clinic.

Can you successfully get a hair transplant without taking daily hair loss medications like finasteride or dutasteride?

It is one of the most frequent questions patients ask when researching permanent hair restoration. In this video, Dr. Sharma gives his characteristically candid and straight-to-the-point answer. Drawing from nearly 20 years of experience as a hair transplant surgeon, he cuts through the noise to break down the reality of DHT blockers, how male pattern baldness continues to progress over time, and how these factors impact your long-term FUE or FUT results.

Not only does he address the medication debate head-on, but he also explains how we determine the exact number of hair grafts each individual patient needs to achieve natural-looking density.

If you are trying to map out your own hair restoration journey and want an honest, medical perspective without the fluff, you will want to hear his take on this.

Precision is the foundation of a successful hair restoration. While every treatment plan relies on clinical experience, we utilize TrichoScan technology to ensure that our approach is supported by objective metrics.

TrichoScan is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that uses high-definition imaging to analyze hair density, thickness, and growth cycles. By integrating this digital analysis into our consultations, we move beyond visual assessments alone, providing a more detailed and accurate understanding of your unique hair patterns.

This approach allows for a consultation backed by measurable insights. It provides a clearer look at your candidacy for a hair transplant and helps us build a more accurate roadmap for your restoration.

Hairline design is where art meets anatomy. In part one of this series, Dr. Sharma demonstrates the principles behind a natural-looking hairline and how he plans for a successful result.

It is important to get this correct and take each patient's unique anatomy into consideration. A hairline that looks "fixed" or too aggressive often fails the test of time; the goal is to balance a youthful appearance with a design that allows you to age gracefully.
