"When one door closes a new one opens"

In early 2020, covid appeared and was closing doors to the financial well being of many of my friends. Jobs were lost, and the mine was shutting down. My future as an accountant with this company was looking grim.

I'm not sure why.. but this caused a turning point in my life. I remember sitting in the truck with my boss at the time and blurting out the words (in disbelief) "Could I take a voluntary lay off?" He asked me "Jacquie, what would you do?" And my response was "Anything!"

Anything.... became a life as an esthetician.

In the months to follow, I was applying eyelash extensions and waxing out of the livingroom of my home. I began taking any and every course I could. Teeth whitening, facials, Manicures, pedicures, spray tans, ombre powder brows and the list goes on. Like a sponge I was absorbing everything I possibly could and loving it.

It wasn't long before home schooling 4 children and working out of a livingroom just didn't seem to work. It seemed unfair to ask kids to be quiet when clients were in the house. There was laughing, crying, fighting and even burning pancakes. I was dreaming of my own space.

I used my severance from my previous job and with a little bit of convincing, I began to renovate an old ATCO trailer that was brought home. This project took months. I remember laying floor with my daughter and a flashlight at midnight because the electrical still needed to be done. Crying over sh*tty wall paper, and painting for days on end. Then came the plumbing, electrical, new doors, trim and a deck. As my bank account depleted, things slowly started to come together. August became September and then October which slowly crept into November. Days were spent lashing and when I wasn't lashing, I was taking courses or renovating. I was exhausted.

I officially moved from the livingroom to the Beauty Barn on November 27th, 2020. I was beyond extatic. I loved making my morning coffee and walking out to the shop in my slippers. Lol.

On December 27th one month later another door closed. Big changes happened in the months to come, and I continued working in my shop. This was my safe haven and I poured everything into it, but knew that eventually that too must change.

I began looking for a space in Edson, but with covid shutdowns this felt like a very scary step.
Exactly 11 months to the day on October 27th I walked away from the work and love I poured into The Beauty Barn. I shut the door and opened a new one in a beautiful lofted space in the town of edson.

My 11 months in The Beauty Barn has filled me with so many memories. Laughing, crying, dancing, visits from the dogs and friendships that I am beyond grateful for. I owe a huge thank you to all my friends who stepped up and helped me create this space and all my clients who have made me what I am today.

There's a saying "Old keys won't open new doors". May there be more opportunity then loss for each one of us in the days ahead as we continue to build our dreams ❤
