Well the warm weather has finally arrived and the sheep are being sheared. This traditionally happens Victoria Day Weekend. Shearing a sheep is like giving it a hair cut. Professionals can shear a sheep in less than two minutes and remove fleece in one piece. The record for shearing sheep is 839 lambs in nine hours. Sheep are generally sheared once a year. Speaking of wool, let me introduce to you our fine line of wool. We carry several different
lines of Paton's wool. We carry Baby Fingering, Astra, Canadiana, Shetland Chunky and Classic Bulky Wool. This month I will be featuring Paton's Shetland Chunky. This is a bulky weight number 5 wool. It is generally knit on a number 6mm knitting needle. It is the wool we use for all beginner projects, as it is bulky and easily handled. Shetland Chunky is 25% wool and 75% acrylic. The beginners class will include your choice of a hat and scarf, poncho or all three garments. The hat and scarf are knit in the garter stitch, which is your basic knitting stitch, while the poncho will be knit in the seed, garter, ridge and ribbing stitches. The poncho neck line will also be knit on round needles and you will learn to pick up stitches along the neck line. Next Steps One-Beginner classes, will begin Thursday, June 11, 7:00-9:00 pm. Knitting lessons will also be available during the day. You will need to come in and purchase your wool, pattern book and knitting needles before this date. Classes are free, with the purchase of your wool. We will also be serving coffee or tea, as well. Remember, "Ewe can knit"
