I’m excited to share a meaningful milestone with you—I’ve officially earned my designation as a Certified Functional Nutrition Practitioner (CFNP) through the Canadian Association of Holistic Nutrition Professionals.

This certification represents a deeper step into the kind of care I’ve always been passionate about: looking beyond symptoms and exploring the why behind how you’re feeling. Functional nutrition is rooted in the understanding that every body is unique, and that true wellness comes from addressing the interconnected systems within it—digestion, hormones, stress, detoxification, and more.

What this means for you is an even more comprehensive and personalized approach to your health. I’m now further equipped to assess underlying imbalances, interpret things like blood work through a functional lens, and create targeted nutrition and lifestyle strategies that support long-term healing—not just short-term fixes.

This evolution in my practice aligns beautifully with my core belief: that your body is communicating. My role is to help you listen, understand, and respond in a way that supports balance and vitality.

Insurance Coverage Note
Many extended health benefit plans may recognize this designation. While coverage always depends on your individual policy, providers such as Industrial Alliance, ClaimSecure, Desjardins Insurance (often associated with DiBrina Sure Group plans), Johnson Insurance, Manulife, and Canada Life may offer reimbursement for services provided by a CFNP. I always recommend checking directly with your provider to confirm your specific coverage.

Whether you’re navigating fatigue, digestive concerns, hormone shifts, or simply want to feel more like yourself again, this expanded training allows me to support you with greater depth and clarity.

Thank you for being here, for trusting me, and for allowing me to grow alongside you.

With gratitude,
Alyssa Doherty CFNP

A Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) focusses on a holistic, food first approach to support overall wellness within a defined scope of practice. A Certified Functional Nutrition Practitioner (CFNP), on the other hand, takes a more investigative, root-cause approach, often looking deeper at body-system’s and underlying imbalances. The benefit? Functional nutrition can offer more personalized, in-depth support by connecting symptoms and addressing “Why” they’re happening, as well as “What” is happening. Both approaches aim to support optimal health. A CFNP can also guid and advise on Non-Diagnostic Testing - such as Hair Mineral Analysis, “Dutch” hormonal testing, Blood work, Allergy/Food Sensitivity Testing and Silvia Testing. Im here to help. How do you know if GAPS meat stock is actually working for you? Your body will tell you! Many people notice less bloating, calmer digestion, more regular bowel movements, steadier energy, and even improvements in skin and reduced cravings, to name a few. These are all signs that the gut lining is starting to heal and seal, and the digestive system is becoming more resilient.

The reason meat stock is so powerful on the GAPS Nutritional Protocol is because of the nutrients extracted from short-cooked, low-simmered meat, skin, joints, and connective tissue. This gentle cooking process releases naturally occurring collagen, amino acids, and minerals that directly support gut lining repair and renewal, and help reduce inflammation.

It is important to understand that collagen in meat stock is very different from isolated collagen or gelatin powders. Gelatin is essentially broken-down, emulsified collagen, meaning the collagen chains are already separated. For someone with a sensitive or unhealed gut, this can be harder to digest and may trigger a higher histamine response or unwanted reactions.

Meat stock, on the other hand, delivers these nutrients in a whole-food, slow-extracted form that is gentler, more nourishing, and easier for the gut to tolerate, especially in the early stages of healing.

If your digestion feels calmer, your bloating has reduced, and your body feels more supported overall, those are strong signs that meat stock is doing exactly what it’s meant to do. Your gut knows when it’s getting what it needs. Have you noticed any of these healing signs? Let us know in the comments below! 12/30/2025
