Big news today!!
PCOS has been renamed as PMOS: Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.
This matters because it sheds light on how PCOS (now PMOS) is a complex multi-system condition that encompasses reproductive, endocrine, metabolic, mental health & many other physiological processes + body systems.
Women & menstruators deserve dynamic care & to be understood, and this is a small stepping stone towards this!
This is a long post that includes excerpts from my article I wrote about PMOS (I will need to update my article with the new updated name) & some herbal approaches that can be considered in helping support those with PMOS.
I believe so strongly that herbal medicine & TCM should be included in a multi-disciplinary approach to PMOS. These medicines offer so much complexity, and I truly believe they can provide support in many ways (& I’ve also personally witnessed how supportive it can be with those I’ve worked with who are navigating PMOS).
I recommend reading the full article on my substack for a deeper dive into what these slides cover.
P.S. Did you notice how many herbs overlap in each section of the different therapeutic goals?
This is the Art & Science of Herbal Medicine. Herbs have a multitude of various herbal actions & constituents.
This is why personalized formulations are so helpful as they target energetics, a persons constitution, & biochemical properties.
*Disclaimer: Not every herb is suitable for every person. Some of these herbs have drug-herb interactions.
This information is for educational purposes only and is not medical advice.
Please always consult with a health care professional or qualified practitioner with herbs you are unfamiliar with.
These strategies also change slightly for those trying to conceive with PCOS. Some of these herbs would not be recommended while actively trying to conceive, and most are contraindicated in pregnancy*
