DID YOU KNOW? Some medications and peptides may affect hair growth!

Have you noticed new, darker, thicker, or faster-growing hair in places you didn’t have it before? Your medications, hormones, or even certain peptides could be playing a role.

Some medications and compounds that may be associated with increased hair growth or changes in the hair-growth cycle include:

Minoxidil – specifically used to stimulate hair growth, but can sometimes cause unwanted facial or body hair.

Hormonal medications – changes in estrogen, testosterone, DHEA or other hormones can influence where and how quickly hair grows.

Certain corticosteroids and other prescription medications – some can cause hypertrichosis, which is increased hair growth in areas that aren’t necessarily hormone-dependent.

Growth-hormone–related peptides – peptides that stimulate the GH/IGF-1 pathway may potentially influence hair follicles and hair-growth cycles. Research on many cosmetic/research peptides is still limited, so effects can vary.

Copper peptides such as GHK-Cu – are being studied and used for their potential effects on skin and hair follicle health. If you’re using peptide products or injections, let your laser technician know.

Why does this matter for laser hair removal?

Laser works best on actively growing, pigmented hairs. If a medication, hormone change or other treatment is stimulating new hair growth, you may notice hair appearing in areas that were previously clear or find that you need additional maintenance treatments.

This doesn’t necessarily mean your laser treatments “stopped working.” It may mean something has changed internally that is stimulating new follicles or altering the hair-growth cycle.

At Shattered Images Hair Removal, I always encourage clients to tell me about changes in medications, hormones, supplements or peptide use so we can better understand changes in their hair growth and adjust their treatment plan when appropriate.
