Tomorrow morning at 5 AM, my son and I will be down at the skate park. ✨️

We’ll be there carrying the names and memories of the people we’ve personally lost.

People we loved. People we miss. People whose lives mattered, and whose absence still does. 💜

We’ll also be there for the people who are still fighting to find their light, and for those who fought their way through the darkness, found it, and are still here.

We’re standing behind Semicolon Skateboards.

Semicolon has been an essential part of my son’s life. Jessie and Joe Hux have given him such a treasure in his life - a place to be his true authentic self, something to be part of, and a community that has meant more to him than I can probably put into words. They are the light for him on his hard days.
That makes this cause especially close to our family.

And then there’s The Golden Family Center, one of the most incredible resources we have here in Golden.

They have personally helped me and my family through different seasons of our lives, and we are genuinely in better places because of their willingness to go above and beyond to help people find the support they need and deserve.

They are, in so many ways, the knights in shining armour of our little town. ✨️🫶

I think sometimes we need to remember that we are all human.

We don’t always know what someone is carrying behind their smile. We don’t know what someone has survived, what they're fighting through, or how badly they might need someone to simply notice them.

So be kind. Check in on your people. Give grace. Put your hand out when you can.

Because sometimes a little bit of support, at exactly the right moment, can change the direction of someone's entire story.

And from my little corner of Golden, I wanted to put a little good back into the community that has given so much to my family.

SK8 DARK TO LIGHT — GOLDEN

We’re back for the 2nd Annual SK8 Dark to Light, a satellite event of Push To Heal’s Skate Dark to Light in Calgary.

The idea is simple: we start in the darkness of night and skate into the morning light, symbolizing the journey through the darkness so many have faced, and others may be facing today, while remembering those who never made it to the light.

By remembering those we’ve lost, sharing stories, and showing up for each other, we can help break down the stigma around mental health and make it easier to reach out for support. And of course, we’ll skate.

Held in recognition of World Su***de Prevention Day on September 10.

I got my first 5-star reviews recently. 😍✨

They meant so much more to me than just seeing those little stars beside my business.

One client found me because she was camping in the area and needed a very specific kind of self-care: “I just want properly clean hair.” And I completely understood the assignment. 😂

Another was heading out on a multi-day hiking trip and wanted French braids so she wouldn’t have to worry about her hair and could just enjoy the adventure.

And honestly, both of those conversations really hit me in the feels. 🥹

They gave me that little confidence boost I needed, especially during those times when I’m questioning whether I’m actually onto something here.

Because one of the reasons I started Gilded Beauty in the first place was for things exactly like this.

I remember wondering, “Do people actually look for this? Like… do people really just want someone to braid their hair?”

So when I heard, “I Googled ‘looking for French braids’ and you popped up,” I was honestly a little stunned.

Then came the, “Wait… is that actually a thing? Like, people just offer hair braiding as a service?”

And I was like, “Hmmmm, I’m not sure. 😂 I just really love braiding, so I went for it.”

And her response?

“That’s so cool.”

You know those little moments where you suddenly think, Okay. Maybe I really am onto something.

That was one of those for me. 🥹

Because building something of your own isn’t always sunshine and gold glitter. There are definitely days when my brain gets loud and starts asking if it’s worth it, if people will actually find me, if this little business is going to work.

Then someone walks through the door because they Googled exactly what they needed… and somehow, I’m the person they found.

That feels pretty damn good.

So, thank you to everyone who has found Gilded Beauty, booked with me, left a review, shared a post, recommended me, or simply cheered me on.

These wins matter. And right now, I’m letting myself be proud of this one. 💜✨
