I really wish I didn’t have to make a post like this, but unfortunately it has become necessary.
As a young woman running a business in the esthetics industry, advertising my services should never mean opening myself up to sexual comments, inappropriate messages, videos, voice notes, or unwanted advances.
I have had to block multiple men — including people locally — from both my business and personal pages because of this behaviour. It is uncomfortable, disrespectful, and it is sexual harassment. You may think “well say female only” and I have tried that, it doesn’t work, and truthfully it’s unfair to male clients who simply enjoy a spa pedicure, brow wax or facial.
When I or the esthetician I work with, advertise services such as waxing, facials, massages or any other esthetic/spa service, that is exactly what we are offering: professional services. Nothing more.
Please do not message either of us if your intentions are anything other than genuinely inquiring about or booking an esthetic/spa service. My personal page is also not an invitation to continue inappropriate conversations after you have been blocked on my business page.
It honestly saddens me that women have to think twice about how we advertise our businesses out of fear of the type of attention it may bring. We should be able to promote the businesses we have worked hard to build without being made to feel uncomfortable or unsafe. In such a digital world, advertising online is basically the only way.
I love what i do, i appreciate wonderful clients, and we will always provide a welcoming and professional environment. All we ask is that the same respect and professionalism be given to us in return. 🩷
