🌳 Research of the Week

A review of data from more than 300,000 people found that strong social connections were associated with a 50% greater likelihood of survival.

In fact, the health risk of social isolation was comparable to smoking 15 ci******es per day.

We spend a lot of time talking about exercise, nutrition, sleep, and hydration—and for good reason. But health isn't just about how you treat your body. It's also about who you share your life with.

This week, call a friend. Grab a coffee. Sit around a campfire. Have dinner without screens.

Sometimes the healthiest thing you can do is spend time with good humans.

🔬 RESEARCH OF THE WEEK: Scheduled Exercise Phase Shifts the Circadian Clock in Skeletal Muscle

We’ve all been told that fixing our sleep is about what we do at night. Dark rooms, cold temperatures, no screens, and maybe some magnesium.

And if we look at morning routines, the advice usually stops at "get early morning sunlight" to wake up the master clock in your brain.

But modern circadian biology has uncovered something incredible: your brain doesn't hold the only clock in your body.

Every single muscle cell you own has its own independent peripheral clock. 🧬

And while the clock in your brain responds to light, the clocks in your muscles respond primarily to MOVEMENT.

When you contract your muscles early in the day—even just for 5 to 10 minutes of light mobility or a quick walk—it sends a massive cascade of signals directly to your nervous and metabolic systems.

It tells your body: "This person is moving, which means they are awake—commence daytime physiology!"

By intentionally shifting your muscle clocks into "active mode" first thing in the morning, you naturally build up your body's sleep pressure throughout the day. When your head hits the pillow at night, your brain and body actually crave the rest, allowing you to transition into deep sleep naturally.

The Takeaway: Exercise isn't just for burning calories or hitting PRs. Movement is a biological time-giver that coordinates your entire nervous system.

Want better sleep tonight? Stop looking at your mattress and start moving your body tomorrow morning. ⏰🚶‍♂️

I've been pushing Gav on a swing since he was able to balance on one. He's pretty chatty in general, but this is one of the best times he tells me all about his day and what happened in it. We also joke around and laugh at the dogs. He said, "this is SO fun" so many times. And, "we have to show Mom, she'll like this."

Sprinkler + swing. So easy. Dogs for added entertainment. Life is good. :)
