Funding Secured to Begin Development of Long Lake 58 First Nation Child and Family Well-Being Law under Bill C-92

Long Lake 58 First Nation is pleased to announce that the Band Representative Program has successfully secured funding to begin the development of the Long Lake 58 First Nation Child and Family Well-Being Law under Bill C-92, An Act respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis children, youth and families.

This marks an important milestone in the exercise of Long Lake 58 First Nation's inherent jurisdiction over child and family services. The development of our own law will support a community-driven approach that reflects our traditions, values, customs, and priorities while ensuring the safety, well-being, and cultural identity of our children, youth, and families.

The funding will support the initial stages of this work, including:

• Community engagement and consultation with members, Elders, youth, families, and Knowledge Keepers.
• Legal and technical support for drafting the Child and Family Well-Being Law.
• Research and policy development.
• Capacity building and planning for implementation.
• Collaboration with federal, provincial, and Indigenous partners.

The development of our Child and Family Well-Being Law represents an opportunity to strengthen our Nation's ability to make decisions for our children based on our own laws, culture, language, and traditions. It also reinforces our commitment to prevention, family preservation, community involvement, and keeping our children connected to their families, community, and identity whenever safely possible.

Over the coming months, community members will have opportunities to participate in engagement sessions and provide valuable input to help shape and develop the law. The voices and experiences of our members will be essential to ensuring our legislation reflects the needs and aspirations of Long Lake 58 First Nation.

The Band Representative Program looks forward to working collaboratively with Chief and Council, community members, staff, and partner organizations throughout this important process.

This is a friendly reminder regarding our event scheduled for Saturday, July 25th, 2026.

The activities will include red dress seal skin pin making, followed by a nutritious food bingo.

Following the Workshop we will be hosting a Nutritional Bingo! From 3:30pm-6:00pm

Multiple Prizes to be Won! Including a Steak Dinner for Four, Movie Night Snack Basket, Household Cleaning Supply Basket & More.

No Cash Prizes.

Starting July 8th 2026, We will be hosting Regalia Drop In Workshops every Wednesday from 2:00pm-7:00pm for the Month for July.

The office will be Open until 7:00pm Every Wednesday for you to come in and work on your Regalia.
