When I look back on our 6th year - 2019, the defining moment wasn’t the expanding our accessibility to 7 days a week, it was welcoming Stephanie to the Skin Studio team.

At the time, I had no way of knowing that she would go on to become one of the longest-standing members of our team, helping care for thousands of clients over the years and playing an important role in the growth of our business.

One of the things I’ve learned over the past 12 years is that a business is never built by one person alone. Behind every great client experience is a team of dedicated professionals who genuinely care about the people they serve.

For the past 7 years, Stephanie has been one of those people. And while our hours, services, and space have evolved over the years, our commitment to surrounding ourselves with kind, talented professionals has never changed.

A defining moment from 2018, that led us to where we are today was: accessibility.

Up until then, we operated Tuesday through Saturday with a limited schedule, and relied on a traditional business phone for booking appointments.

But as the studio grew, it became clear that our clients needed more flexibility. So we expanded our team, expanded our hours, and opened on Mondays, making Skin Studio available 6 days a week. We also traded in our old-school business phone for an iPhone, allowing clients to text us directly for appointments and questions.

It might not sound revolutionary today, but at the time it was a big step toward the way we operate today. I knew from day 1 that your experience isn’t just about what happens in the treatment room. It’s also about making it easy for you to connect with us, ask questions, shop, and book appointments in a way that fits into your busy lives. And that philosophy still guides us today.

Whether it’s online booking, text communication, online shopping, virtual consultations, or expanded appointment availability, we’ve always looked for ways to make self care more accessible and convenient for the people we serve.

Because taking care of yourself is hard enough some days. Booking the appointment shouldn’t be.

Each day leading up to our 12th anniversary, I’ve been sharing a defining moment from each year that helped shape Skin Studio into what it is today.

For 2017, that moment was learning Microneedling.

At the time, I had no idea just how much it would change the way we approached skin health and corrective treatments.

I was able to help clients create meaningful, long-term changes in concerns like acne scarring, fine lines, skin laxity, texture, pigmentation, and overall skin quality—not by masking problems, but by supporting the skin’s own natural regenerative processes, all with minimal downtime.

Nearly a decade later, Microneedling is still one of our favourite treatments to perform. Not because it’s trendy, but because it truly works.

Over the years, we’ve refined our protocols, evolved our techniques, and built an experience that is uniquely our own. Today, our Microneedling treatment is one of the services we’re most proud of, one of the treatments we’re continually becoming most known for - and it’s one of the most transformative services we offer!

In 2016 a defining moment in our history was the introduction of our Skin Membership.

At the time, memberships weren’t as common in the spa industry as they are today. But I had noticed a trend: clients were coming for facials, but it was still being thought of as a “treat” - something they would do once in a while, rather than as a part of a long term plan. So the idea was simple… help our clients make self-care and skin health a priority, not an afterthought.

Over the years, our members have become the heart of our studio. They have trusted us with their skin through weddings, pregnancies, career changes, health challenges, celebrations, and everyday life. Many of them have been with us for years, growing right alongside our business.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that we weren’t just building a membership program—we were building a community.

Today, our membership is currently full, and I don’t take that trust lightly. To every member who has been part of this program over the years: thank you. Your loyalty, support, and belief in what we do have helped shape Skin Studio into the business it is today. Your commitment to yourself has inspired our commitment to keep showing up, educating, supporting, and caring for you at the highest level.

Each day leading up to our 12th anniversary I’d like to share a defining moment from each year, that lead us here. 🤍

In 2015 that defining moment was the decision to purchase our Thermo Lo machine. I made what felt like a very big purchase at the time. I invested in a piece of equipment called the Thermo-Lo. Most of our clients know it by a much friendlier name: Epidermal Repair. (Because let’s be honest... “electrodessication” doesn’t exactly sound like something you’d book off of a spa menu lol)

At the time, I was looking for a way to help clients with those little things that bothered them but often got dismissed elsewhere. Skin tags, cherry angiomas, sebaceous hyperplasia, broken capillaries milia, and sebborheic keratoses… Things that were completely benign, but were still impacting our clients’ confidence.

More than a decade later, we’re still using that same trusty machine to help clients address concerns they thought they’d just have to live with.

Growth has always required investing in the future before I had any proof it would work.

And while many things have evolved, that commitment hasn’t. In an industry constantly chasing the next big thing, we’ve always believed that proven, safe, effective treatments will outlast any trend. And that’s exactly the kind of care we’ll continue bringing to our clients for years to come.
