To put it plain and simple I’m done with feeling like crap. Women of a certain age; perimenopausal, over 40, menopausal, etc etc etc. are bomb barded with fitness and wellness tips on a daily basis, every time they open their phone to a social media app.
You must do this for this reason or change this by doing this. It gets to be too much, we are overwhelmed and need to step back.
Well here I am, I’m back. Those who’ve followed me for awhile may have noticed a lack of posting, I was burnt out. I had seen some great results with my previous company and I was feeling great, then the inevitable happened, I went perimenopausal and then hit full menopause. Yes, at a younger age than most, thanks genetics. With it came a whole host of issues. I gained back all the weight I had lost and then some, my energy levels depleted, and I felt like crap, pain after pain started appearing.
I tried following some of the “experts” advice but wasn’t seeing results, I’d go down a bit and then gain it back. My body is so full of inflammation from the years of chronic pain. There’s gotta be an answer.
Sometimes we have to ignore the experts and just do what feels good to us, what feels right. I started by introducing hormone balancing supplements to my diet, now it’s time to begin moving my body again.
So I went back to basics. A favourite trainer of mine did a reel rating his programs from easiest to hardest so why not follow it. It was a perfect example of a way to start simple and gradually increase intensity. So today I started with Hip Hop Abs and I’m feeling great.
Let’s see where the basics gets us.

Last week I celebrated my 49th birthday. I’m calling this my “I’m not fifty yet” year, my year of me.
I’ve been a daughter for 49, a sister for almost 48, a wife for 28, a mom for 25, and a Nanny for almost 5 years. I’ve worn many hats and loved them all, but the one most frequent was as a people pleaser.
Over the years I gave so much of myself that I eventually forgot how to include me. “Whatever you’d like” has become a common refrain. I’ve lost track of my wants and desires.
“Where do I want to eat?”
“What do I want to do?”
“How do I want to spend my time?”
This became apparent to me after obtaining my electrical license last February. I realized I had spent so much time focused on the test there wasn’t room for anything else. Afterwards I was lost, aimless, I didn’t know what to do with my time off, my downtime. I didn’t even really have any hobbies to speak of, just things I was dabbling in.
So I declared I was making a change.
I’ve told my hubby and sons, whoever was in ear shot - This is my year.
I saw a post by a cousin a couple months ago, she was doing 50 new things before turning 50 this year. Great idea! An inspiration!
I decided to do something similar, it’s a 50 before 50 thing with a twist.
I’m doing 50 things I always said I would do or wanted to do but never did.
How many times have I pointed out something and said, “that looks like fun” or “I’d love to try that sometime” but never did? Well no more.
I’m making a list and I’m following through.
