Our Ambassadors!
We’re excited to highlight six very special residents: Aiden, Beans, Oliver, Patrick, Phoebe, and Kingston the mule, who are helping us share an important story as our Ambassadors. Each of them represents a different reason donkeys and mules come into care at the DSC, and together, they’re helping people of all ages better understand their needs and welfare.

To bring their stories to life, we’ve collaborated with One Thousand Trees founder Lisa Browning, who kindly donated her time, to create a beautiful children’s picture book, plus a companion colouring book! These books are designed to spark empathy, curiosity, and compassion in young readers (and the grown-ups reading along, too).

Every purchase helps support the donkeys and mules in our care, providing essentials like veterinary care, nutritious food, shelter, and enrichment.

You will find the books on our website, at the Sanctuary boutique, and through One Thousand Trees. We hope you’ll take a moment to meet our Ambassadors and help share their stories.

We are excited to announce that 12 student photos have been selected to be in a calendar for 2026, and 12 different photos were selected for a new poetry book!
Student photographers from Focus on Nature were excited to work in partnership with the Benjamin Project (www.thebenjaminproject.ca), a non-profit initiative educating children on responsible pet ownership and animal stewardship.
AND
One Thousand Trees (www.onethousandtrees.com), a Guelph-based publishing company whose mandate is empowerment through storytelling and connection, on two separate projects in 2025.

Stunning photographs of various animals were featured in the 2026 Benjamin Project fundraising calendar and A Window to Your Soul, in which 12 poets wrote a poem in response to a photograph they randomly selected.

Calendars are $15.00, and the poetry book is $10.00 plus shipping. The order form is available until November 14th, 2025; after that, we cannot guarantee you will receive your items before December 25th, 2025. Pickup can be arranged- please inquire if interested.
