began my artistry very innocently and it was a big surprise to me that I had some ability to accomplish these things. It was a total surprise to me.

My first love is being in the kitchen and creating with food this is something which comes very naturally to me. I very seldom use the recipe to make a particular dish. The recipe is generally just to obtain an idea to what I would like to make. I have a tendency to change all the ingredients around and makes them my own. I add ingredients, I move ingredients, so by the time I am done it is my own recipe.

I have a friend that wanted my pizza dough recipe which I was glad to give her, but nothing was written down so I did not know the amounts of my ingredients. I suggested that we take a day and get together, I would make the dough, and she could right down the ingredients and their amounts. That is how my pizza dough recipe came to be as a recipe that was written down.

Gradually I was introduced to painting, at first it was furniture. Then I graduated to painting abstract on canvas, and everyone kept telling me that this is what I should be doing. There was something there Being told again that there was potential in my artwork and it could grow into something that would surprise even me.
One friend told me that she could definitely see the potential, if I just stuck to it, and gave it a chance.

There also have been times along the way ,when people have discouraged me which was very difficult for me, This discouragement came from people who I thought would stand behind me. But clearly they were not in favour of what l was about to do.
It certainly has been quite a learning experience and deciding what path to take has not been an easy one, but what it has taught me is to keep going and to believe in myself, and what I was trying to accomplish.

I have a little place that I retreat to and as some of told me “this is where all the magic takes place “I have a shed. I call it the shed, but it is really a workshop for me. Once I go in and shut the door behind me, the rest of the world just disappears. It is my safe haven. Totally relaxed and at peace when I’m in there doing what I do . My husband and my grandson built it for me. It is heated so in the winter I can work in there and be protected from all the elements ,it is also air-conditioned so during those long hot days of summer it is really pleasant in there.

During this whole process, I knew that I had to name the business and I just couldn’t think of a name that seem to fit. Until one day while standing in the workshop designing a Farmhouse Sign and looking out the window. I realized what my little business had to be called – the shed was called Birch Tree Cottage and looking out the back window there was this incredible and magnificent, Huge Birch Tree. It all made sense now.
