Did you know this about Massage Therapy in Ontario? 👇
Under current regulations, an RMT cannot treat their spouse as a patient.
Because of the way the law is written (under the Regulated Health Professions Act), if a healthcare provider treats someone they’re in a sexual relationship with—even a spouse—it is automatically classified as sexual abuse of a patient.
Sounds extreme, right? That’s because the rule was designed as a zero-tolerance policy to protect patients from power imbalances in healthcare settings.
But here’s the interesting part…
👉 The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO) is now proposing a spousal exemption, which would allow RMTs to treat their spouse without it being classified this way.
✔️ Many other healthcare professions in Ontario already have this exemption
✔️ It would better reflect real-life relationships
✔️ Safeguards would still be in place to protect the public
This change has NOT happened yet—so the current rule still applies.
What do you think? Should RMTs be allowed to treat their spouse?

✨ Gua Sha is now available at East Mountain Massage!
Melissa Madsen, RMT at East Mountain Massage has added Gua Sha tools into treatments to help target fascial restrictions and support lymphatic drainage.
When we’re dealing with injuries—especially chronic ones—the fascia can thicken and become restricted. This can slow the healing process and keep things feeling tight, stuck, or achy.
Gua Sha helps to gently break up those restrictions, improve circulation, and get things moving again so your body can do what it does best—heal.
Curious if it’s right for you? Just ask to add it into your next treatment!

Hey new moms 🤍
If you’re in that postpartum phase (whether it’s been a few weeks or a few months), just know—you don’t have to do it all alone.
Hamilton Public Health actually offers free home visiting programs to support you and your baby 👶
Check it out here:
https://www.hamilton.ca/people-programs/public-health/healthy-pregnancy/home-visiting-programs
And while you’re taking care of baby… don’t forget about YOU.
Your body has been through a lot—pregnancy, delivery, feeding, carrying, no sleep… it adds up.
Postpartum massage can help with:
• Low back pain (hello epidural + feeding posture)
• Neck & shoulder tension from holding baby
• Hip and pelvic discomfort
• Stress + overall reset
Even just one hour can make a huge difference in how you feel walking out vs walking in.
If you’ve been thinking about booking—this is your sign 💛
