Erin at Plum Tree Eco Spa

Well, guys, this is it! Plum Tree Eco Spa is now officially closed.
Having my own spa had been a dream and goal of mine, and it really was a great experience. It was overwhelming and all-consuming at times, but I eventually learned how to balance and hit my stride. I’ve been so lucky to have developed such a special group of core clients who made it all worth it. For some, it’s been up to 15 years! That’s quite a span of milestones to catch up on over pedicures & brow waxing. I’ve also been very fortunate to have worked with some amazing colleagues & friends over these last 9 years at Plum Tree.
It’s been an emotional month of goodbyes, and now it’s time to move on to the next chapter as we head to Vancouver Island. Never know, maybe one day there could be some sort of reincarnation of Plum Tree By The Sea!
Just a note regarding gift certificates - I have settled up all outstanding gift certificates that were purchased though me, and the remaining ones are with Angela and will still be valid with her. Hello everyone!
I sent an email out to all of our regular clients, but I just realized I had not updated our news on Facebook. Our property has sold! My husband and I will be moving to Vancouver Island to be closer to family and for a change of pace. The timeline for moving is a little quicker than I would have hoped, we have to move out on July 14, which means I have to close the spa as of June 30 to have time to pack and tie up loose ends.
The timing is definitely strange, having just reopened and now having to close again so soon.
I’ll be ordering any products that anyone would like to stock up on in the second last week of June, and arranging a day or two for product pickups around the end of the month.
Thank you all so much for your support over the last 9 years! I’ve really lucked out with the most amazing group of clients, I will miss you all!

We are now all set for a careful & gradual reopening as of June 1st. There are still a few limitations in place, some of which will likely ease up as we go along if all goes well. In accordance with WorkSafeBC and industry specific guidelines, here is our initial reopening plan. Please read this over before booking or coming in to the spa.

Reopening Safety Protocols:

General/Environment

-Occupancy limit of 4 people total inside the spa, including practitioners.

-Guests are asked to arrive at scheduled appointment time or wait outside until appointment time if early.

-Guests are asked to arrive unaccompanied unless required, children cannot be permitted to wait inside the spa during appointments at this time.

-Appointment times will be staggered to avoid close contact/crossover between practitioners & guests between bookings.

-Guests are asked to wash hands when arriving in the spa.

-Masks are to be worn by practitioners & guests while in the spa, with the understanding that they do not necessarily protect the wearer from viral contraction, but they can reduce the spread of the wearer’s respiratory droplets to others. Guests may bring their own clean mask, or a disposable mask can be provided at a cost of $2.

-Payment by card or eTransfer is preferred over cash if possible.

-Guests are asked to avoid handling retail items, your practitioner will select any products you would like off the shelves.

-High-contact shared or un-washable items are removed, such as magazines, candy bowl, washroom toiletries other than soap dispenser & hand towels, product testers, cushions, blankets, etc. (Washable items will be available upon request and cleaned.)

-Beverage service will be paused for the time being.

-Use of our steam room can not be offered at this time. Facials can not be performed until further notice due to prolonged close contact without a mask. Any treatment that requires a guest’s mask to be removed will not be possible at this time.


Cleaning/Sanitation Procedures & Precautions

-During and Between Treatments: Practitioners will be regularly cleaning high contact areas & surfaces such as furniture, desktops, doorknobs, cart/drawer handles, faucets, key-pads, devices, light switches, shared equipment.

Shared equipment includes: Lamps, heaters, computer.

Furniture includes: chairs, desks/tables, massage table/head rest, carts.

Practitioners will use tissues to handle any door knobs/handles/switches during treatments or in between guest contact and hand-washing. Products used during services will be pre-distributed before the service when possible, and all bottles/containers handled during service will be cleaned between services.

Polish color sample swatches will be handled by practitioners only, after hand-washing, and shown to guests for color selection without contact.

-Post-Treatment: Practitioners will carefully sterilize reusable service implements, and dispose of single-use items that cannot be sterilized. Practitioners will thoroughly wash hands after contact with each guest and before touching any other surfaces.

-Sufficient time for cleaning & disinfecting will be booked between services.


Safety & Prevention

-Guests and practitioners must stay at home if experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19 within the last 10 days, including fever, chills, new or worsening cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, new muscle aches or headache, loss of smell.

-Guests and practitioners must stay home for 14 days if arriving from outside of Canada, have been exposed to anyone arriving from outside of Canada, or have been exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 case.

-Cancellation fees will not be charged if guests are ill or experiencing symptoms. We ask for continuous re-evaluation of new symptoms up until appointment time.

-While we are taking every precaution possible, the nature of our services mean that physical distancing is not possible while performing treatments. Guests with weakened immune systems or higher risk profiles are encouraged to consider postponing treatment due to the possibility of viral transmission.

I know you’re all very eager to get in for services and you’ve probably seen the announcement regarding salons & “other personal care services” reopening soon as part of Phase 2. Unfortunately this announcement was made to the public without any clarification for us in the industry as to where spa services fit into that, a plan for safety guidelines for us, or sufficient time for us to plan and prepare. We still have many unanswered questions and are waiting for more information and industry-specific guidelines. I appreciate your patience as we wait for more clear information, I promise I will update as soon as I have an idea of an opening date. It will not look like it did before, there will be new and different ways of operating, and I’ll need time to figure that all out. My top priority is all of our heath & safety.

I hope you are all staying healthy and doing well! If you’d like to know how I’m doing, I just sent an email to all my regular brow tint clients offering an option for “DYI” brow tints & facials, both in the email subject and then repeating my mistake again in the body. I’m blaming it on brain atrophy. Anyhow, whether you’d like to ‘do it yourself’ or ‘do yourself it’, I can help!
If you do get your brows tinted they are probably pretty much faded out by now. If you are at home and not seeing anyone you may not be concerned about it. As one client replied, her “give-a-sh**ter” has broken for now. 😂 Hey, I get it! However, if you are interested, I can offer you supplies to do your own. I would not suggest doing your own lash tinting, however brow tinting is pretty simple.
As long as the operating suppliers have enough supply, depending on how much I will need to order, I should be able to provide you with your colour formula. For the brand that I hope to get, the cost would be $10 per tube of colour and $10 for the developer. I usually use a combination of colours to get it just right, but to simplify I can keep it to two or in some cases just one. So for one colour + developer the total would be $20 and for 2 colours + developer $30. This will be enough for several applications and I can give you detailed how-to instructions. I’ll be collecting orders for the next few days and will compile an order for next week.
I'm also offering DIY (got it right that time on the second try) facial kits. We can do email or phone skincare consultations and I can provide you with a kit of single applications of every product you would need for an at-home facial. The cost for these is $10 for Moor Spa or $12 for Seaflora.
If there is anything else you need I can do my best to order for you if I don’t currently have it in stock. I am editing the list of available products from my previous post to keep it up to date.

Due to the close contact nature of my business, as a non-essential service I will unfortunately have to close for bookings for the time being. I have cancelled all remaining bookings for the rest of this month and will re-evaluate beyond that as things progress.
One thing I can do in the meantime, is deliver products if needed. If you are in need of any skincare/body care/nail care products (Seaflora, Moor Spa, Sparitual) during the time that I am closed, you can purchase via phone or eTransfer and I will deliver for free within the Kelowna area (leaving packages in a designated outside area to reduce contact if necessary). In the next couple of days I will compile and post a complete list of stock available.

Hello all!
I know things are a bit strange right now, and I think most of us are feeling a little unsure about what to do. We’ve been seeing a lot of cancellations and closures, we’ve been hearing a lot about social distancing, and things seem to be changing by the day.
I’m trying to make the call about whether to shut down completely for now, or leave it up to my guests whether they still want to keep their appointments or not.
We are a small space and wouldn’t qualify as a group gathering, but we do qualify as close contact. I am feeling fine, but we know that people who are not symptomatic can still carry the virus. In a spa environment, it should go without saying that we always practice high standards in cleanliness and sanitation. However, because of frequent contact with others, exposure is not outside the realm of possibility. I’d rather be too cautious than not enough. If your health is compromised in any way, it is in your best interest to avoid this type of contact right now. If you have any concerns about coming in, I suggest that you cancel for the time being. If you are showing any signs of illness I kindly ask that you do not come in. There will be no cancellation fees during this time.
This will be a strain on small businesses for sure, but in the bigger picture, being extra cautious is for the good of everyone.
Hopefully things will get back to normal sooner than later, and when they do I’ll be ready to pamper the heck out of you!

Updated Price List for 2020

Hello! Just a quick note regarding gift certificates and holidays...
Today (Friday) is the last day that I will be available for gift certificate pick-ups in person, and tomorrow (Saturday) will be the last day I’ll be able to email gift certificates.
I’ll be on holidays starting from Sunday Dec. 22nd and back on Monday January 6th.
As the property is still for sale, I’m trying not to have too many outstanding gift certificates just in case we finally sell. However, I can provide a few for my clients who come regularly enough to be able to use them and not hang on to them for too long.
