How thick should your nails actually be? 🤔

Here’s the thing… thicker doesn’t automatically mean stronger.

A beautiful, durable enhancement gets its strength from proper structure + the right product for the nail and length, not simply piling on more product.

👉 The apex matters.
Product needs to be strategically placed in the stress area to support the extension and distribute pressure.

👉 The free edge doesn’t need to be chunky.
You can create a thin, refined free edge while still maintaining strength when the structure behind it is correct.

👉 Length changes the requirements.
The longer the extension, the more stress it creates, which means it generally requires more structural support.

👉 Product choice matters too.
A short natural nail overlay can often benefit from a product with a little more flexibility that moves with the natural nail. But for a long extension, you typically need a stronger, more rigid product capable of maintaining the architecture and resisting that additional leverage.

So instead of asking “How thick should I make it?” ask:

Where does this nail actually NEED the product?
And is the product I’m using appropriate for this length and nail type?

Because adding thickness in the wrong places can just create a bulky nail, not necessarily a stronger one. Strong nails are about architecture, balance and choosing the right product for the job 💅

How long SHOULD your nails last?

The truth is… there isn’t one exact answer.

When applied AND maintained correctly, nail enhancements can last for several weeks, and the product itself can sometimes remain attached for even months. But longevity depends on a few important things 👇

✨ High-quality + compatible products
✨ The correct system for the natural nail
✨ Proper application + curing
✨ Correct structure for the length and lifestyle

MAINTENANCE MATTERS TOO:
✨ Regular fills/rebalances, usually every 2–4 weeks
✨ Cuticle oil regularly
✨ Gloves when cleaning or doing dishes
✨ Avoid prolonged exposure to water
✨ Don’t use your nails as tools
✨ Avoid unnecessary pressure, impact or stress
✨ Never pick or peel lifting product

And even with perfect application and aftercare, retention can vary from person to person. Natural nail condition, excess moisture or brittleness, growth rate, body chemistry, lifestyle, hormonal changes and even certain medications can all influence how the natural nail, and therefore the enhancement, performs.

So while a properly applied product can stay attached for a LONG time, prolonged wear without maintenance is never the goal. As the natural nail grows, the structure changes and becomes unbalanced so it will need to be properly rebalanced and adjusted.
