This is a surprise and extremely bad news

Global warming is awakening sleeping giants of ice at the South Pole as glaciers start to flow faster and surface melting increases.

Both satellite data and field observations in Antarctica reveal alarming signs of a Greenland-like meltdown, with increased surface melting of the ice fields, faster-moving glaciers and dwindling sea ice. Some scientists are sounding the alarm, warning that the rapid “Greenlandification” of Antarctica will have serious consequences, including an accelerated rise in sea levels and significant shifts in rainfall and drought patterns.

The Greenlandification of Antarctica - Nature Geoscience Climate and ice sheet processes in Antarctica increasingly reflect those observed earlier in Greenland. Applying process insights from Greenland can improve projections of future Antarctic ice and climate behaviour.

It seems to have started. We are passing climate tipping points and there’s no going back, for decades or centuries.

This is extremely bad news.

It continues to get worse

The Red List, produced by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), is the most authoritative global assessment of extinction risk of species.

Released today at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in Abu Dhabi, the updated database includes 172,620 species of which 48,646 are threatened with extinction.

And whose fault? Ours (humans) of course 😞
