I am pleased to announce I am double dosed; and Porch Hair Salon is now excepting bookings for all services (including beard trims). There are still a few appointments available this week on Friday and Saturday but they are going fast.

Hi everyone.

Great news! Kingston is moving out of lockdown and Porch Hair Salon is able to reopen again, Thursday February 11, 2021. Call, text or email to book an appointment for a color or a cut.

Client precautions remain the same:

A good fitting mask is required to come into the salon.

The washroom here remains off limits.

Please reschedule your appointment if you are feeling even a little unwell or you have had a suspected contact with a COVID positive individual.

Here at Porch Hair Salon I have improved air quality by installing a door between my living quarters (where I am unmasked) and the front porch (where we are always masked). This physical barrier should greatly reduce the risk of there being any virus in the air during your services.

Hi, I hope everyone has had a great summer.

I am excited to be back at work and looking forward to catching up, at your next appointment. I am currently booking the week beginning Tuesday September 8, 2020 or after.

I can find no mention in the media of any transmission in Salons where Public Health precautions are being adhered to. In light of this I am resuming shampoo and color services. Unfortunately, Beard Trims are still unavailable.

All other precautions remain the same:
Masks are required at all times in the Salon.
Personal items must stay on your lap during your appointment.
The Bathroom is only available in absolute emergencies.

Porch Hair Salon Is Closed Until September 1, 2020

Hello Friends;

The unfolding outbreak centered at a local nail salon has illustrated how easy transmission can happen in the close contact setting, of any salon. And how widely an infected practitioner can quickly spread it through the clientele. Having a devastating impact on so many people and other small businesses. It was fear of this exact scenario that closed my doors in March. And why I have not gotten a haircut yet, myself.

While I think my procedures in the salon do meet or exceed current best practices. My confidence is shaken. Translating hastily written regulations into real life action requires some interpretation. There is shortages of vital supplies and substitutions have to be found. And the new mandatory mask order, in Kingston, demonstrates what is deemed “safe” is a moving target. Subject to change at any time.

Taking all of this into consideration. I have decided to close Porch Hair Salon for a further 2 months effective immediately. I will reopen Tuesday September 1, 2020. By then, hopefully, there will be further clarity as to how personal services can be performed even more safely. Universal indoor masking will be habit for all of us and should significantly lower the risk of all activities.

I know that some of you can’t wait until September and will have to go elsewhere. I totally understand but sincerely hope to see you again this autumn.

I am going to attempt to cut my own hair for the first time ever later today. It has reached the point where it really can’t look any worse. So why not? Lol. If it goes well I might be able to coach others on how to do it. Stay tuned for the results.
