If you've got chair renters in your shop, the contract you signed matters more than you think.
The CRA can look at a "chair rental" arrangement and decide it's actually employment. If they do, you're on the hook for back taxes, EI, and CPP- sometimes years' worth.
The good news: a clean contract goes a long way. Swipe through for the clauses that keep things on the right side of the line.
The big ones? Call it a licence, not engagement of services. Charge a flat rental fee, not a commission split. And spell out that the renter runs their own business - their prices, their hours, their tools, their insurance, their taxes.
