DID YOU KNOW........

Your nail is actually not one piece, but is made up of 100's of layers of nail cells and are made up mostly of keratin protein.

This is why some people experience splitting on the edge because the layers have become disrupted.

Gel can actually help by sealing in all those edges and allowing the nail to grow out.

Me, the queen of Nails.......too funny

FACT OF THE DAY........

The stress point of the nail is directly in the centre of the nailbed.

Nail Techs call this area the APEX, and the gel application should be more concentrated here, kind of like an egg yolk shape to support the stress point and protect nail length from breaking easily upon having any impact.

This is why regular "fills" are important. If the gel portion that WAS concentrated over the apex has grown down and out and is no longer over the apex, the stress point of nail is no longer protected to support the length, and breakage is easier, especially if free edge length is too long.

It is based on the leverage affect, that the longer the nail free edge, without apex protection, the more the free edge length can move and the easier the breaking.

FACT OF THE DAY........

Like hair and skin, not all nails are created equal. Not all products are compatible with all nails.

AND, as skin and hair change, so do nails, so what worked in the past may not work anymore.

A Nail Tech should have many different products for each different nail needs. Some nails need a flexible building gel, while others are fine with traditional hard building gel.

Product knowledge is a must.

If product does not stay on your nails, it could be the product.

DID YOU KNOW.......

Not all gel polishes are equal.

If you have been assuming that the process is called SHELLAC, that is not correct.

Shellac is simply one brand, the first in the industry actually, and the name was adopted for all light-cured gel polish applications. This brand is known for peeling off.

All the light-cured gel polish lines I use are top industry performers and have presented no issues.

DID YOU KNOW......

Having gel nails does NOT mean fake nails.

The first visit, length is extended if needed (full set). After that, a fill is simply a gel overlay and is usually done over natural length that grows out.

Why get gel? Because it is a hardened coating on your nails to prevent breakage of any length.

And yes, it is a great way to get your nails to grow!!
