Ever wonder why herbal oils are such a staple in natural skincare?

An herbal oil infusion is simply dried herbs steeped in a carrier oil over time, allowing the oil to absorb many of the plant’s beneficial properties. Think calendula infused olive oil, chamomile infused sunflower oil, or marshmallow root infused sweet almond oil.

To make one at home:
1. Fill a clean, dry jar about halfway with dried herbs.
2. Cover completely with a carrier oil of your choice.
3. Store in a cool, dark place for 4–6 weeks, shaking occasionally.
4. Strain and enjoy your infused oil in homemade skincare creations.

Herbal oil infusions can be used to create:
✨ Nourishing body oils
✨ Salves and balms
✨ Lip balms
✨ Facial oils
✨ Handmade soaps

Why not just add herbs directly to your product?

Infusing herbs into oil first helps extract oil-soluble compounds from the plant material, making those beneficial properties more available to the skin. It also creates a smoother finished product without gritty plant particles and allows the herbal benefits to be distributed evenly throughout your formulation.

One of our favourite infusions is calendula in olive oil. Calendula is traditionally valued for its soothing properties and makes a beautiful addition to products designed for dry, sensitive, or irritated skin.

When you take the time to infuse herbs intentionally, you’re creating more than skincare—you’re capturing the benefits of nature in every drop.

Which herb would you infuse first? 🌿

TLDR (I think that’s Gen Z for what we millennials would call “cliff notes”?? Am I right?? 😅😂):

Warm weather tips for keeping your deodorant from melting into the bottom of the tube, plus a little surprise at the end 🤍

Not all ingredients make it into our formulas just because they sound good on a label.

Marshmallow root and olive oil are infused together long before they become our Marshmallow and Calendula tallow soap, creating a botanical infusion rich in skin-loving benefits. Marshmallow root is known for its soothing properties and naturally occurring mucilage, which helps skin feel soft and comforted, while olive oil contributes gentle cleansing and lasting nourishment.

This extra step takes time, but it’s one of the many ways we formulate with intention. Because every ingredient we choose should have a purpose — and every bar should do more than simply cleanse.

Thoughtful ingredients. Purposeful formulation. Skin that feels cared for.

Calendula is one of our favourite botanicals for sensitive skin; and in soap, it brings a calmer, more comforting cleanse.

Loved for its soothing, skin-friendly nature, calendula helps make washing feel gentler, especially for dry or easily irritated skin.

Part of our ingredient-focused series, where every formula begins with ingredients chosen for their real skin benefits 🤍

Found in our new Marshmallow and Calendula Tallow soap, available on our website and recently restocked at Homestead Market!

✨We would love to teach more classes this year! But…
✨To make that happen we need to have a minimum of 5-6 sign ups per class (students must be age 18+)
