Eyebrows aren’t just for women.

They frame the face, restore balance, and often become part of how we recognize ourselves. For anyone who has lost eyebrow definition—whether from alopecia, overplucking, aging, medical treatments, or genetics—it can become a daily source of frustration.

This client’s journey started over a year ago. Today he came back for his annual refresh, and this is exactly why I tattoo the way I do.

His brows had faded beautifully, leaving the perfect foundation for a refresh with fresh ink. Because I work conservatively and use modern inks, they soften naturally over time rather than becoming increasingly saturated, heavy, or grey with each appointment.

Last year I only shared half-face photos to protect his privacy. This year, he generously gave me permission to share his full face in the hope that other men might realize this is an option for them too. I’m incredibly grateful for that.

He lives with alopecia, which has affected much of his eyebrow hair. The after photo was taken immediately after his refresh appointment, so they will continue to soften as they heal. Once healed, the goal is for them to be completely undetectable as a tattoo—simply looking like the eyebrows he should have naturally.

The difference eyebrows make isn’t about vanity. It’s about identity. Sometimes the smallest feature can have the biggest impact on how we see ourselves in the mirror.

Helping people regain that confidence—whether they’re women or men, whether they’ve lost their brows to age, genetics, alopecia, or another life experience—is exactly why I love what I do.

Some transformations are years in the making.

When she first came to me in 2018, her brows had already been tattooed into a shape that simply wasn’t right for her face. They sat too far in, were much too large, and my only option at the time was to soften what was already there. I did the best I could with the knowledge and techniques I had then, knowing it was an improvement—but not the result she truly deserved.

Fast forward to today.

After two laser Reset + Renew sessions, we were finally able to clear away almost everything that had been holding her back. Her old ink had already faded well over the years, and laser lifted the remaining colour beautifully, leaving only the slightest trace of yellow that wasn’t visible enough to stand in the way of creating something new.

For the first time, we weren’t working around old mistakes.

We were working with possibility.

Instead of disguising someone else’s work, I could design brows that truly belonged on her face—soft, balanced, and flattering in both shape and size. The kind of brows she should have had from the beginning.

Sometimes the most beautiful results begin by taking a step backward.

These brows came to me with a very dark, solid shape that had gradually turned a cool purple over time. The colour and shape no longer suited her features, so we started with two laser sessions to soften and fade the old ink before creating something new.

One of the most common questions I get is:

“Why is there sometimes yellow or orange left behind after laser?”

The answer isn’t the laser—it’s the original ink.

Brown cosmetic tattoo ink is made from a combination of different colour components. While laser is excellent at removing many of those colours, certain organic yellow and orange components simply don’t respond well to laser technology. That’s why, after the darker colours disappear, a soft yellow or orange residue can sometimes remain.

There are other removal techniques that can further reduce these colours, but they are generally more invasive and require additional healing. Many clients decide they’d rather move forward once the remaining colour is light enough.

That’s exactly what we did here.

Together, we decided the remaining orange was faint enough that I could safely create a fresh set of soft, natural brows over top. She understood that a small amount of the original ink would remain beneath her new tattoo, and she was happy to trade months of additional removal for beautiful brows she could enjoy now.

Every Reset + Renew journey is unique because every previous ink behaves differently. My goal isn’t perfection at any cost—it’s helping each client make the best decision for their timeline, skin, and long-term result.

Long before I offered laser ink removal, I did what many artists did—we tried to improve a difficult situation by tattooing over old work. The shape underneath was already working against us, and while it was the best option I had at the time, I knew there had to be a better way.

Years later, we were finally able to give her that chance.

Tracey came to me after years of old-style eyebrow tattooing, multiple previous procedures, and several laser removal sessions elsewhere. While progress had been made, it still wasn’t the clean, soft foundation needed to create the natural result she was hoping for.
