In 2016, I believed becoming a nurse would give me a secure life, make my parents proud, and make me feel more worthy of love.

I did become a nurse, but life did not become easier.

The income, benefits, and stable career could not give me peace or tell me who I was. Deep down, I felt God calling me toward something I never expected.

Leaving nursing was scary. I was walking away from everything I once believed success was supposed to look like. Not everyone understood my decision, and honestly, I did not know where it would lead either.

But I knew I could not keep building my life around fear, comfort, and the approval of others.

So I trusted God and took the step.

I became a barber. I kept learning, building my clientele, taking risks, and trusting God through every uncertain season. Some days grew my faith. Other days showed me how much I still wanted to be in control.

The journey is still unfolding, but God has already done more than my younger self could have imagined.

Today, I am building my own business, engaged to the woman I will marry, preparing to move out, and sharing stories that have reached more people than I ever thought possible.

But those accomplishments are not what make me most proud.

I am most proud that I trusted God enough to take the risk.

The greatest thing I became was not a nurse, a barber, or a business owner.

It was someone brave enough to walk by faith. 🙏

Day 5 🧱

I used to think staying up late meant I was working harder.

But the next day, I’d wake up around noon with high blood sugar, already feeling rushed and anxious. I’d skip meals, miss my workout, eat whatever was convenient, pray less, and become impatient with the people I loved.

Then I’d stay up late again, trying to recover the progress I had lost.

I realized I wasn’t just sacrificing sleep. I was sacrificing the person my fiancée, loved ones, clients, and purpose needed me to be tomorrow.

Sometimes faith looks like working hard. Other times, it looks like closing the laptop, caring for the body God gave me, and trusting Him with what I couldn’t finish today.

I’m learning how to build a meaningful life without sacrificing my health, faith, or the people I love.

Day 3 🧱

“He looked better coming in.”

Early in your barbering career, someone made that comment. And I worried that other people would see it, doubt my ability, and decide they couldn’t trust me with their hair.

It made me want to stop posting altogether, but they forgot who I put my identity and trust in: Jesus.

And that He was no stranger to any of the hate and persecution he received.

I accepted that similar comments would come a week, a month, or a year later.

But I knew they wouldn’t meet the same barber.

If I kept working and remained a student, I would become more skilled and experienced.

I didn’t need everyone’s approval to continue improving.

Now, I can laugh off similar comments without pretending I have nothing left to learn.

The comments remind me that I’m willing to put my work where people can judge it.

I recognize them as distractions instead of allowing them to define me.

Rather than losing sleep, hating myself, or self-sabotaging, I redirect my attention toward Jesus and even pray for the people commenting.

I knew the comments might not stop, but they would never meet the same version of me twice.

Till this day, I still experience hate from time to time.

But I realized this: Growth didn’t silence every critic, it changed how much authority I gave their words.

Day 3 🧱

Clients often ask me about the difference between low, mid and high tapers.

A taper concentrates the shortest blend around the temples and neckline, leaving more fullness through the sides and back than a traditional fade.

The taper height determines how much of the temple “hook” remains visible. A low taper preserves most of it, a mid taper keeps approximately half, and a high taper removes most or all of it.

For this client, I created a mid taper and carefully blended it into the heavier hair above. This maintained a clean transition while preserving the rounded shape of his head from the side.

The focus was on creating a clean blend, keeping the transition soft and finishing the textured top in a way that complemented his
natural hair.

Enhancements can be useful, but a great haircut should still be able to stand on its own.
