Hi, I'm Melody. My business is called Bluemind Counselling & Consulting. I'm a licensed Counseling Therapist. I also do Guidance Coaching. And got my HR certification during COVID because I was bored.

I also have ADHD. ๐Ÿ˜‰ For reals.

I love the concept of Bluemind. I believe it speaks to that inner self, the healthy, authentic, present person that exists continually within us. And neuroscience makes my nerd-heart happy.

"Hot take"... I don't think therapy is all about painful work, and fixing what is wrong. I think it's about healing what is hurt and discovering what is right and real. The genuine you that existed before you were taught to be otherwise, and still exists underneath the bs of *gestures vaguely into the world.* My goal is to help you experience safety, peace, understanding, self-compassion, clarity, health... and all those other things we do to help you reveal the life you want to live.

I'm quirky, clever, intentional, and compassionate. In almost every session you will hear me say "I was just reading an article about..." and at some point you will probably roll your eyes and laugh, but I'm sure you'll find the info useful!

I don't take myself too seriously, and believe the necessity of whimsy, a good cup of coffee, and the power of a good laugh and cry as survival tools. I'm not afraid to think outside the box and adapt because I serve folks where they're at - without a hint of judgement.

People ask me, what do I "counsel"? I'm a bit of a generalist, but my jam is working with neurodiverse folk, creatives and innovators, the people who feel like they never quite fit, folks with anxiety, grief, or trauma, women in any period of life transition and or change, youth finding their footing, and/or anyone who is particularly sick of the tyranny of "just stay positive".

If you've tried therapy before and hated it, give me a call. Honestly, I've been there.

Give me a shout to set up a no-pressure Discovery Call to see if I'm the right fit for you. (You can also book it right on my website!)

I am excited to welcome Sarah Legere to the Bluemind fam. Sarah is a practicum student who is finishing her Master's of Counselling Psychology degree with Yorkville University, and will be working with me from now until mid-August. She is offering free weekly counselling sessions both in-office and online. She is midway through her clinical training and has been gaining experience in a school-based setting, supporting youth with emotional, social, and academic challenges. She is now expanding her services and experience here with me!

Sarah offers a compassionate, client-centered approach grounded in evidence-based practices and a strong commitment to ethical care, and is particularly interested in supporting individuals experiencing anxiety, stress, life transitions, self-esteem concerns, body image, and emotional well-being. She strives to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and understood.

โ€‹She is an intern, and so I will be supervising her practice. This means you will have the benefits of two minds working for you at once! I have access to her clinical files and oversee her work, but your confidentiality remains tight - between the three of us. And the great news - services with Sarah are free of charge!

For more information or to book with Sarah, or myself, please go online to www.bluemindcc.com.

Anyone interested in joining me for 30 days of Affirmations? I started doing them a minimum of couple of times a day, more intentionally and intensively almost 2 months ago and even though I was skeptical, it was really all the capacity I had at the time. What I've discovered is that those little touch points in my day really help with my grounding and focusing, it has helped change any negative thought patterns that pop up in the day and has built, and is building, more confidence within myself.

If you want to join me doing this for a month, let me know! I'm going to put a little Facebook or WhatsApp group together, and see what happens!

The door is open and the opportunity is now! We (Melody Land, Counselling Therapist, and Breanne (Stevens) Linzel, Dietician) are excited to share that we are taking new clients for counselling and dietetic services.

โžก๏ธ Are you a deep thinker, innovator, or a curious creative? Neurospicy and sick of masking? Maybe someone who is over false positivity and performance, or someone who's always felt like you "didn't quite fit"?

If you're tired of having a mind that just won't quiet down, if you're over shrinking yourself for the world around you, and if you're ready to consider what life could be when you are able to embrace the incredible, untethered, phenomenal human that you are...

You might find a home at Bluemind Counselling & Consulting.

Client-focused and quirky, direct and gentle, warm and real. We aren't afraid of messy. Understanding complex life circumstances isn't just an idea here, it's our gold standard.

We don't offer fancy, polished, or perfect. We might never be fully zen. We don't have it all figured out all of the time. In fact, we don't want to. Because real life *is* messy, complicated, it changes, sometimes by the minute. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ In this world, we need to be adaptable. So does your healthcare. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

Real connection, real growth, and the real you exists even in the midst of complex life circumstances, during rainstorms AND during still, glass like rivers. Bluemind offers you a different way to be.

This isn't beige therapy.
It's blue. ๐ŸŒŠ

For more info, check us out at our website www.bluemindcc.com, shoot us a message, and/or consider booking a free 15 minute consult to see if we are the right fit for you.

*And we are covered by most insurance plans!

Hi folks, I realized I don't think I've ever properly introduced myself. As I'm working towards getting all my ducks in a row with my website, new systems in onboarding clients, etc., I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and record a little video to tell you about me and what I do.

Thanks for taking some time to watch it!

Somebody once said in therapy, you have to do the work. That it's all about change. As I've gotten older more experienced, something I've realized is that everything doesn't have to be work... and this mentality can really get in the way of healing and growing.

Instead, I like to approach mental health through a lens of revealing and discovery and growth. What if the healthy you is there right now, and has been there all along. Talking, learning, unlearning, understanding, developing tools and strategies, can require effort of course, but if we look at it through a lens of curiosity, of discovering the self before the hurt or the harm or the trauma, I think it makes for a more exciting adventure as opposed to just one more thing we have to labor through.

Thanks for being here. I'm really glad you are! ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿฉต๐Ÿ’š

"A long-winded story about feeling like nothing matters and finding glimmers."

A couple weeks ago marked the middle point of a very busy few weeks, the most full few weeks I've had since having major health issues and subsequent chronic illness a couple years ago. None of it was difficult, but it required a lot of balls to juggle. I was proud of my increased capacity but could feel the edges unraveling a bit. So, instead of taking the car for an errand up the street, I decided to take " a stupid walk for my stupid mental health" to get some peace and quiet. It was only about 10 minutes, I did not want to overexert and trigger anything, but felt the pull for some fresh air.

It was a dreary day. One of those gray fall days when the sun isn't shining, the wind has picked up, and you can feel those winter blahs starting to creep in. Not only was I feeling the start of overwhelm, I was feeling particularly heavy about the state of the world. I read an article recently about the need to be careful not to pathologize our emotions and experience when living in times like this... the weight of the world is heavy for many of us.

To be honest, this positive psychology, practice what you preach, nervous system self-care, people loving therapist, the one who is so often able to make meaning and carve out resiliency, and walk with others, striving to carry the weight of their struggles for a time, was starting to feel the weight of it all herself. I was starting to feel the weight of "everything in the world is falling apart, does any of this, the work I do, the way I am, the person I try and be, the changes I try to make, does any of it actually matter."

Because sometimes no matter how much self-care/self-work we do, education we have, or experience we hold, we're all human. Sometimes it gets heavy, it gets hard, and it only takes a busy week, or a harsh word from someone, or that one extra ball we have to juggle, to make it feel like it's all going to fall down.

But then as I was going for my little "stupid walk from my stupid mental health", noticing the bleakness of the day, I looked down and saw, fighting its way along the edge of the sidewalk, a small scraggly patch of these little blue flowers.

I have no idea what kind of flower they are (I'm sure someone will tell me in the comments). But here in the midst of the bleak in the heavy, the lack of color, was a vibrant blue.

So I stopped along the road and spent a good 3 or 4 minutes taking photos of what I'm sure is a w**d of some type. The cars that drove by I'm guessing had a good chuckle at all the strange angles I was trying for, in my flower photo shoot.

But I had found a glimmer!

I'm sure I've read it somewhere, but often I remind my clients (and myself) to look for the glimmers in their life: a moment, a split second, a fleeting flash, of something that gives them hope, or shows them beauty, or brings joy. When everything feels hard, it's easy to get lost in it. We can't see anything but the difficulty, the pain, or the sorrow. But glimmers can help send a little beacon through that darkness.

I found a little blue glimmer!

We don't know when we're going to find a glimmer. I find they pop up in the most unexpected places, like this bright blue flower on the side of a road on a cold and windy day. But when we see them, hold on to them. Pause for a second and take its picture (literally or figuratively!). It's the glimmers that help get us through.

Something else the little blue flower reminded me is that we do matter. Just showing up, imperfectly, as our scraggly selves, matters. Sometimes we're like a garden in the middle of the summer, blooming and obviously impactful, but sometimes it's the small little blue flower that shows up in unexpected places... sometimes being that little blue flower makes an even bigger impact. It's not pretending to be anything other than what it is, it's showing up imperfectly, it's just doing its best. That was, and is, enough.

Here's the takeaway, and I'll try and make it brief because we all know I'm long-winded:

1. Look for your glimmers, today and everyday.

2. Remember that you can and do make an impact. Showing up each day in the world in whatever form you can, even if you're feeling a bit scraggly, can still have a huge impact in ways you can't perceive.

It matters.

You matter.

xo,
Melody
