Worth the Hype? 👀 Today’s trend: Face mists
For most people... not really. 🤷♀️
They can feel refreshing, but they usually aren’t hydrating enough to make a meaningful difference. The one exception?
A hypochlorous acid spray, which I do recommend for some patients to help calm inflammation and support acne-prone skin.
Otherwise, I’d save your money and invest in a good moisturizer instead. 🤍
What skincare trend should I review next?
Pop quiz... how long do you think one tube of sunscreen should last on a beach vacation? 👀☀️
The answer surprises almost everyone.
If you’re spending the day at the beach and reapplying every two hours like you should, an 88 mL tube is only enough for one adult for one day.
Most people aren’t underusing sunscreen because they don’t care. They’re just not realizing how much they actually need.
Are you using enough SPF? 🤍
(p.s. NOT SPONSODERED - this just happened to be the only small tube I had laying around 😂)
Save or Splurge? 👀
This one’s a save ✨
A cleanser is only on your skin for a short time, so you don’t need to spend a fortune to get a great one. The best cleanser is one that’s gentle, cleans effectively, and works for your skin type.
If you’re looking to cut back on your skincare budget, this is a great place to do it. 🤍
What skincare product do you think is worth the splurge?
If I could give every patient one skincare tip, it would be this... consistency. ✨
It’s so tempting to jump from product to product, hoping the next one will be the one. But the truth is, most skincare needs time to work.
I always tell my patients to focus on one or two concerns and stick with their routine for at least 3 to 6 months before deciding if it’s working. Your skin needs time to respond.
Simple. Consistent. That’s where the real results happen. 🤍
What actually makes a skincare product “medical grade”? 👀
It’s a term that’s used all the time, but it doesn’t have a regulated definition. What I care about is the science behind the product.
I’m looking for ingredients with strong clinical evidence, effective concentrations, and formulations that are backed by data, not just marketing.
The label matters a lot less than the research behind it. 🤍
It stinks... but it works. 😅
Sulfur isn’t the most glamorous skincare ingredient, but it’s one I reach for again and again for acne, rosacea, and perioral dermatitis. It helps reduce inflammation, calm redness, and keep breakouts under control.
If you can get past the smell, it can be a really effective addition to the right routine. 🤍
Have you ever tried a sulfur mask?
One of my favourite “lazy mom” hacks? ☀️😅
Full-length swimsuits.
As a dermatologist and a mom, I’m all for anything that makes sun protection easier. Kids are busy playing, swimming, and running around, so anything that keeps more skin covered without having to constantly reapply sunscreen is a win in my book.
Of course, sunscreen is still important on exposed areas, but a good rash guard can make your beach or pool day just a little bit simpler. 💛
What are your favourite summer parenting hacks? ⬇️
One of the most underrated skincare products? 👀For me, it’s ammonium lactate.
I recommend it all the time for dry, rough skin, especially on the body. It’s one of my go-to products for cracked heels, keratosis pilaris (those little bumps on the backs of the arms), and rough elbows and knees.
It hydrates while gently exfoliating, which is why it leaves your skin feeling so much softer.
Sometimes the products that don’t get all the hype are the ones that work the hardest. 🤍
Did you know that about 50% of your lifetime UV exposure has already happened by the age of 20? ☀️
As a dermatologist and a mom, that statistic really sticks with me. It reminds me how important it is to build good sun habits early, from wearing sunscreen to remembering to reapply throughout the day.
We can’t avoid every ray of sunshine, but we can give our kids the tools to protect their skin for years to come. 🤍
If your skin looks like this, it might not be acne 👀
I see perioral dermatitis all the time, and it’s one of the most commonly misdiagnosed skin conditions.
The instinct is often to throw acne products at it, but that can actually make the rash even more irritated.
The first step isn’t finding a stronger product. It’s getting the right diagnosis.
Have you ever heard of perioral dermatitis? 🤍
