There. I said it.

One of those transformations where you stand back at the end thinking, bloody hell, that was a transformation and a half.

And did I document where we started?

Did I hell. 🫠

So now you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Hairdressers, PLEASE tell me I’m not alone. You spend hours concentrating, sectioning, foiling, toning, tweaking… admire your work at the end and then suddenly remember—

THE BEFORE PICTURE.

Gone. Never existed. Nobody will ever know. 😂

So whether it was a massive colour correction, a grey blend or just a bloody beautiful set of highlights…

This is actually where grey blending gets really interesting.

Her new growth was naturally coming through whiter than the lengths and ends. She didn’t want to go backwards and start covering that beautiful natural grey with permanent colour — but she also didn’t want to just leave everything disconnected and hope for the best.

So instead of covering the grey, we balanced the rest of the hair around it.

A little carefully placed lightness through the ends helped soften the difference, while a very subtle demi-permanent softened the natural grey just enough to bring everything together.

No hard regrowth line. No committing herself to covering her roots every few weeks. The demi will gradually fade away as the hair grows.

Just a softer, more balanced canvas that still looks like her.

Because embracing your grey doesn’t have to mean doing absolutely nothing to your hair.

Sometimes grey blending is simply about knowing what to leave alone — and what needs a tiny bit of help. ✂️

I’m 43. Here are 10 things I wish I’d known when I was 33.

1. You’re not running out of time.
2. Comparison will rob you of enjoying what you’ve already built.
3. Chasing money and material things won’t make you feel settled.
4. Not every client is your client — and that’s actually a good thing.
5. The thing you do best is probably already there. You might just need time to recognize it.
6. Be brave enough to specialize. For me, that became grey blending — and trusting that the right people would find me.
7. Stop chasing validation from people who aren’t where you want to be.
8. Decide what your values are and stick to them. The rest has a funny way of falling into place.
9. Feeling safe and loved changes everything. ❤️
10. Calm down. Slow down. You’ll get there.

At 33, I genuinely thought I was getting old. 😂
At 43, I realize I was still a bloody baby.

Life does move fast. But you still have time to start the thing, change direction, move somewhere new, specialize, fall in love, build something different — whatever it is.

Patience. Kindness. Love.

Those are probably the three things I’d give my 33-year-old self.

What would you tell yourself 10 years ago?

We’ve all got our thing.

Some hairdressers are incredible at blondes. Some can cut a bob so sharp it could cut a diamond. Some are absolute wizards with curls.

Mine happens to be grey blending.

Because grey blending isn’t just throwing in a ton of highlights and hoping that by going lighter, somehow everything is going to blend out.

You’re working with years of old colour, natural white hair, different patterns of grey, warmth, porosity… and trying to create something that’s still going to look bloody lovely as it fades.

So if you’re thinking about starting your grey blending journey, find someone who does this s**t all the time.

We all have our specialties. We all have the things we could probably do in our sleep.

Grey blending is just my particular flavour of insanity. 😂

Not every grey blending transformation means going blonder.

Sometimes the most beautiful thing we can do is restore some of the depth you used to have — without putting you straight back into the cycle of harsh roots, permanent colour and that bloody line of demarcation every three weeks.

Because grey blending isn’t about making everybody silver. And it definitely isn’t about making everybody blonde.

It’s about looking at your natural grey pattern, your old colour and your end goal, and figuring out how the two can start living together.

And this is where the real skill comes in.

It’s not just about how your hair looks when you leave my chair. It’s knowing which products to use, where to place that depth and how to formulate it so that as your colour softens over the next few weeks and months, it still looks beautiful.

Not gorgeous today… and fu***ng orange three weeks later. 😂

That’s the difference.

Some of you have probably seen my girl Julie pop up on this page before, but I needed to show you where we’re at now because… LOOK AT HER HAIR.

We started this grey blending transition a few months ago, and Julie has been bloody brilliant with her aftercare. She’s looked after it, trusted the process, and because of that we’ve been able to go back in and really finesse that blend.

And this is the bit I love…

She literally messaged me a couple of days ago asking me to remind her when her next appointment was.

Because she’d forgotten.

This is what five months of grey blending can actually look like.

Three appointments. That’s it.

When we started, she was just done with that white line appearing every few weeks. She hated seeing it. She couldn’t cope with the constant upkeep anymore and, more importantly, it just didn’t feel like her.

She’d changed.

She wanted to see who the woman underneath all that dye actually was.

And, well… turns out she looks pretty bloody gorgeous.

Now, this is definitely one of the less complex grey blending journeys. Shorter hair is generally easier to transition because we’re quite literally cutting away more of that old colour as we go. And when the starting point isn’t a really dark brunette, we don’t have quite as far to travel either.

But it does show you just how far we can come in three appointments and five months when the starting point allows it.

The goal was never to make her grey overnight. It was to carefully undo what had been done before, soften that horrible line and gradually let more and more of her own beautiful natural hair take over.

And bloody hell, look at it now.
