Pro Tip #8
You probably didn’t know this...but most hair oils aren’t just for long hair! As long as the hair oil isn’t too heavy (thick), you can use it regardless of your hair length. You just need to know when you would need it and how to apply it.
Firstly, hair oil can help to keep your hair more pliable and soft which 1) helps with styling and 2) adds shine
Here’s how to apply it:
For long hair, start with a small amount - try the size of a nickel at first, rub your hands together and then work from midway down the strands to the ends of your hair in a smoothing motion. You can do this on damp or dry hair (I like to use it both when my hair is damp and then again after I’ve dried it).
If you have short hair and you want to add some shine or help with pliability, use a small amount (try a pea size at first) and rub your hands together before applying, work it through the longest parts of your hair first and then run your hands all throughout your hair with the remaining product.
Give it a try and let me know how it works for you!

Pro Tip #7
You might need to use a “violet shampoo” if - you have naturally silver/grey hair!
Have you ever wondered how to brighten your hair and keep it from becoming too yellow? Maybe you’ve heard of using purple or blue shampoos but are scared to try it for fear of turning your hair purple! That is a very reasonable worry! Here’s how to get the results you want without ending up with purple hair...
1. Go with a “purple” shampoo VS “blue” and look for one that is specifically meant for brightening silver hair not toning blonde (Davines makes a excellent one)
2. Use it “as needed” - this is very important. Pay attention to how it’s working and only use it when you start to notice the yellow returning - you probably don’t need to use it every wash if you wash your hair every day (especially if you notice your hair starting to take on a purple hue - you’re using it too often)
3. Make sure you’re using a moisturizing conditioner! This step is more important than you might think as most purple shampoos actually dry-out the hair strand a bit. This can, in turn, make the hair more porous which will just have adverse effects for your hair all around. If you’re not used to using a conditioner at all, try something light-weight to start with (for instance DeDe conditioner by Davines).

HOPE
Have any of you been lacking this very important thing lately? While walking in my neighbourhood the other day I spotted this tree in bloom! Seeing blossoms like these, in the middle of winter, is such a powerful reminder of hope isn’t it? Of a brighter tomorrow. Of new beginnings. New growth and new adventures.
I’ll be the first to admit, this past year has brought so much stress, worry and anxiety into our lives. There are of course definitely good and wonderful things that happened last year as well (my daughter Emma being one of them). My prayer for all of us today is that we notice the little things that bring us hope for tomorrow.

Have you ever gotten your round-brush stuck in your hair? If you have, first of all you’re not alone! And secondly, it may be a sign you don’t have the right size of round-brush!
Let me help you to know either which size to buy, or if you’re even using the right one!
Typically round brushes come in three different sizes. To keep things simple let’s call them small, medium and large. The large size is designed for long hair (past the shoulders), choose the medium sized brush if your hair is between shoulder-length and your ears, and for hair that is short you’ll want to use the smallest sized round-brush.
If you follow these basic rules you will have better luck not getting that brush stuck!

This is Us! If you haven’t met us yet - we’re the Ripleys! (I know what you’re thinking - “Like the Ripley’s Believe it or Not!” haha).
I thought I’d take a minute to share some fun facts that you might not know about us! The last one will surprise you I think...
Emma - now 9 months old, may decide to give you a kiss, although her latest attempts involve her gnawing on your cheek
Mya - who is 10, can whip you up a surprisingly gourmet breakfast that might even include a dessert to follow
Lesley - has been keeping a journal since she was 9 years old and to date holds 15 finished volumes (filled with many spelling mistakes and hilarious stories)
Jonathan - has been Lesley’s amazing husband for the past 5 years and when he gets the time, can be found trying out his latest bait or newest reel
As a family - we have been to a combined total of 10 different countries and can’t wait to make plans for #11

Do you ever experience a dry scalp? This time of year always seems to cause this problem for me!
If a dry, flaky scalp is a problem for you too then I have a suggestion that will help! Biolage’s Scalp Sync is my favourite shampoo for this issue and I’ve used it for years! I’m not sponsored to say this by the way - I actually just love this product.
I keep a bottle of the Scalp Sync in my shower so I can use it when needed!
Wash your hair first with your usual shampoo, rinse and then apply the Biolage shampoo - trying to get the majority of it on the parts of your scalp that are the most dry/itchy. I do this at the start of the shower so it can sit on for several minutes (that’s the key). Rinse well and then follow-up with your usual conditioner.
Let me know if you end up trying it and how it works for you!
