Beyond “Smoker Lines”: A Holistic Approach to Perioral Rejuvenation and Lower Face Facial Balancing👇🏼

The lips do not exist in aesthetic isolation, neither do “Smoker lines”. The perioral tissues, structural support, proportions, and transitions all influence how the mouth is perceived, which is why the lips and surrounding area should ALWAYS be assessed as a single aesthetic unit, particularly as age related changes become more pronounced.

This result was not about simply adding lip volume or filling smoker lines. It was about rebalancing the entire perioral complex. By treating the lips and perioral lines together, we were able to improve structural support and definition, restore harmonious proportions between the upper and lower lip, and soften the transition between the lips and surrounding tissue.

Treating the perioral lines (“smoker lines”) alone in this patient could have created disproportionate heaviness above the lip and a less favorable healing outcome. Addressing the underlying balance of the area allowed for cohesive, refined, and naturally rejuvenated result.

Patients may present requesting treatment of a single concern, but effective aesthetic medicine requires us to assess the anatomy and relationships responsible for that concern. Our role as practitioners is not simply to treat what is requested, but to educate, assess comprehensively, and develop treatment plans that are anatomically appropriate, balanced, effective, and sustainable.

The Chin: A Holistic Approach to Corrective and Preventative Aging 👇🏼

A comprehensive lower-face treatment approach can address both corrective and preventative signs of aging by targeting the marionette region, a hyperactive mentalis muscle, and excessive DAO muscle pull.

I have outlined the full treatment strategy, including each step involved in achieving the final result, to demonstrate how targeted anatomical correction can support a balanced and natural outcome 🤓

In some cases, restoring a more youthful and balanced lower face begins with releasing muscular tension in the chin and reducing the downward pull of the DAO muscles. When these muscles are overactive, they can contribute to chin dimpling, mental crease deepening, mouth-corner downturn, and premature aging changes in the lower face.

This treatment plan used a two-step approach to address chin tension with Botox and marionette-region depression with Dermal Filler, creating a smoother, more seamless, and naturally youthful lower-face contour.

Every single post I have ever made has either a video attached to the post or a story that demonstrates the results of my work live on video. THIS IS SO IMPORTANT!!

In a world where content is edited left, right, and centre, especially in this industry, it is critical to choose a provider who posts their RAW work and stands behind it with honesty, integrity, and a strong moral compass.

This is also why I post so many angles. Because one picture from one angle can be deceiving. Lighting, positioning, and angles can change the way something looks, and I refuse to build trust off of one carefully selected photo.

I have also had clients ask, “Can you edit out a blemish before posting?” or “Can you remove peach fuzz?” And my answer is always NO. Nothing I have ever posted, and nothing I ever will post, will be edited even 1%. Not a blemish. Not peach fuzz. Not texture. Not reality.

And if a client does not want their photo posted unless I edit out a blemish, then it simply does not get posted. Period.

Every picture I have ever posted is live, raw, and unedited. What you see is the real result. No filters. No smoothing. No manipulation. No false expectations.

Transparency and ethics are at the forefront of my practice because people deserve to know that what they are seeing is real from every angle, not just the “best” one or an edited version.

There are so many providers who post real results, and so many who do NOT. Please be careful. Ask questions. Look for live proof, multiple angles, and consistency. Choose someone whose work is built on honesty, integrity, and a strong moral compass, not illusion.
