The in-between.

The school year is ending, and I can feel the shift.
Life is slowing down—and I’m letting it.

Stillness.
Rest.
Reading.
Reflection.

✨ Less can be more. ✨
Summer gives me the space to recharge, to hold what was, and gently begin preparing for what’s to come.

Being trauma-sensitive takes intention.
It’s not just what we teach—it’s how we live.
And it starts by modeling care for ourselves.

So I’m honouring my energy.
My mental health.
My family.

Because the way I care for myself shapes how I hold space for others—youth, adults, families, schools, communities.

This is the balance I strive for.
And this soft pause?
It’s not stepping away—it’s how I move forward with care.

Sunrise Challenge – Day 3

Finding light in the Smallest Places

This morning, while participating in a beautiful sunrise yoga class, I had a quiet moment that really stayed with me.

With my hands pressed gently at the center of my body, I noticed the morning sun shining softly through my palms. As I lifted my arms, I saw the light glimmer through my wrists.

It was subtle, powerful.

A glimmer.

A reminder that even in the midst of challenge, light finds a way in.

When it comes to our mental health, the road isn’t always bright.

Sometimes it’s hard, heavy, and lonely.

And moments like these remind us that hope lives in small places too.

A breath. A sunrise. A sensation. A shift.

Today, I’m honouring those glimmers..

If you’re reading this post, I see you. I appreciate you.

Day Two – CAMH Sunrise Challenge

Sitting on the rocks near the water.
A group of people all gather.
Collectively to watch the sunrise.
Cold rocks.
Beautiful colours.
Pinks.
Purples.
Reds.
Orange.
Each minute, the colours morph.
With eyes closed.
Hearing the birds, water connecting with the rocks.
In the distance, a Canadian flag flapping on a pole.
In one moment, all becomes silent.
The voices around.
The Birds.
It feels like the world stills.
Opening eyes.
The sun begins to show.
Slowly creeping
From the waters surface.
A sip of warm coffee.
The feeling of gratitude.
For the sun.
The community.
The reminder that after the darkness.
The sun shines bright.
Without the darkness.
We can’t celebrate the sun.
It fills the world with a warmth.
The places that felt lonely,
Isolating,
Now looks completely different in the light.
You can see the colours of the trees
Grass
Flowers.
Feeling the warmth of the sun on the face.
The coolness of the rocks beneath.
Breathing in the new
The new day
The new light.
The new beginning.
Again, hearing the soft sound of voices.
The birds.
The Water.
As we leave, we notice.
How different it looks.
A flute began to play.
Conversations.
Transitions.
Back to your day.

Day One – CAMH Sunrise Challenge

After a long winter — or even a heavy season in life — sometimes all it takes is a small glimmer to remind us that things can shift.

That glimmer for me is twilight.
It’s that quiet space before the sun fully rises.
The colours start to change, and so does the energy.
There’s something sacred in that moment — a soft invitation to begin again.

Every year during the Sunrise Challenge, we come together as a community.
Some of us only cross paths this one week a year.
Others stay connected all year long.
Some we only see online.
And yet, for these few early mornings, we all show up — together, and on purpose.

What always strikes me is how solitude and community can coexist.
In those early hours, when the sun begins to rise, everything gets quiet.
And in that quiet, I feel deeply connected —
to those I know, those I don’t, and to a shared mission:
Bringing awareness to mental health.
Honouring the struggle.
Holding space for hope.

No words are needed.
Just presence.
Just each of us waking up, breathing in the stillness, and offering our energy to something greater than ourselves.

This week always fills me back up.
It reminds me that I’m not alone — and neither are you.
Here’s to sunrise, solidarity, and continuing on — one quiet morning at a time.

Mother’s Day is not one-size-fits-all.

For some it’s joyful.
For others it brings grief, longing, or complicated emotions.
And for many—it’s all of those things at once.

As someone who has grieved and found healing in what I’ve created as a mom, I wanted to offer this gentle reflection.

This carousel is for anyone navigating the day with mixed emotions.
For caregivers parenting through complexity.
For chosen family, supportive friends, and those showing up in quiet ways.
For you—whoever and wherever you are.

Today, may we hold space for the “both/and.”
Grief and joy.
Mess and meaning.
You are seen, heard, and loved.

Save this post if you need a reminder—you matter, just as you are.

Teen Girls, Neurodiversity & Mental Health: Behind the Mask and Beneath the Surface

“I'm bigger than the bad thoughts,
I'm brighter than the light their trying to steal,
so why do they feel so real…”

These lyrics from Rachel Platten echoes the inner world many teen girls are navigating—especially those who are neurodivergent.

Whether they’re autistic, ADHD, or learn differently, many girls spend their days masking—hiding their overwhelm, shrinking their differences, and trying to fit in. They often appear “fine” on the outside while quietly struggling on the inside. And with the added pressures of social media, the comparison, and the curated perfection, the weight becomes even heavier.

These internal battles are real and often debilitating.
They’re not being dramatic. They’re doing their best to survive in a world that rarely makes space for difference.

As adults, parents, and caregivers, we need to adjust our approach:
Ask "What do you need right now?" Instead of "what’s wrong with you?"

Recognize that “big changes” in mood, energy, or engagement might signal burnout, overwhelmed, and mental health changes, not defiance.
Offer mental health days as real, necessary rest—showing compassion.

When I facilitate yoga for teens, I hold space for their feelings. If someone needs to rest, we honour that.
We say: Thank you for letting me know what you need.
We say: I’m glad you spoke up for yourself.
Because validating their experience is healing.

And when I find personally I am struggling, my go-to strategies are:
Validating music
Talking to someone I trust
Journaling
Screaming and crying when I need to release
I use RAIN (Recognize, Allow, Investigate and Nurture)

Let’s normalize feeling it instead of hiding it.
Let’s show teens they don’t have to fall apart in silence.
Compassion isn’t coddling—it’s lifesaving.
