π€ I've been thinking about how much I've learned from the people who have sat in my chair.
Over the years, I've had conversations about just about everything.
And I mean everything. π
I've learned about all kinds of jobs and careers.
I've heard stories about people's experiences with different illnesses and health journeys.
I've learned about different cultures and discovered how, despite our differences, we often have so much more in common than we realize.
I've collected favourite recipes.
I've learned about popular shows, movies, music, books, and all the things everyone is talking about.
I've gotten travel tips from people who have been places I've never been.
I've heard stories about family, friendships, love, loss, new beginnings, hard times, exciting times, and everything in between.
We've talked about life.
We've talked about death.
We've talked about things that are fascinating and completely mind blowing.
We've laughed until we couldn't talk.
We've had conversations that were heartbreaking.
We've talked about things that were heavy.
And we've had conversations that were wonderfully light and completely ridiculous. π
Sometimes I've walked away from an appointment thinking...
"I can't believe I just learned that."
Other times I've thought...
"I never would have looked at it that way."
And sometimes I've simply thought...
"What an incredible story."
That's one of the unexpected gifts of being a hairstylist.
I get to meet people from so many different walks of life.
I get to hear perspectives I might never have encountered otherwise.
And every conversation adds something.
A little more knowledge.
A little more curiosity.
A little more compassion.
A new fun fact.
A different way of looking at the world.
A better understanding of someone else's experience.
And sometimes...
Just a really good laugh. π€
I often think about how many of these conversations have shaped me over the years.
They've made me more curious.
They've helped me understand people better.
They've given me stories I'll never forget.
And they've helped me become a better person and, I hope, a better hairstylist.
Because when you spend years listening to people's stories, you learn that everyone has something interesting to teach you.
So to every client, past and present, who has ever sat in my chair and shared a little piece of their world with me...
Thank you.
Thank you for the fascinating conversations.
The funny ones.
The difficult ones.
The weird ones.
The heartfelt ones.
The completely unexpected ones.
Thank you for trusting me with your stories.
You have contributed to my growth in ways you probably don't even realize.
And you've made my career so much richer than I ever could have imagined.
The hair may be what brings us together...
But the conversations are what make it special. π€
π± It's called SOCIAL media for a reason. π€
Sometimes I think we forget the "social" part.
Social media isn't supposed to be just me posting something and everyone quietly scrolling past. π
It's supposed to be a place to connect.
To say hello.
To share a laugh.
To ask a question.
To recommend something.
To celebrate someone's good news.
To discover a local business.
And hopefully, to get to know the people behind the businesses you support.
I've been thinking about this because so many of my clients have actually found me through word of mouth.
One client tells a friend.
A friend tells her sister.
Someone mentions me in a local group.
Someone sees a post and realizes, "Oh! I know her!"
And before I know it, someone new is sitting in my chair.
That's pretty amazing to me.
But here's the funny thing...
A lot of the people following this page already know each other.
You're neighbours.
Friends.
Family.
Coworkers.
You've probably run into each other at the grocery store, the coffee shop, the kids' activities, the farmers market, or somewhere around town.
Some of you are already clients.
Some of you are friends of clients.
Some of you are just here because you enjoy the hair conversations.
So don't be shy. π
You already know each other!
If you see a post that makes you laugh, tell me.
If you have a hair question, ask it.
If you see someone looking for a hairstylist, tag them.
If you have a great hair tip, share it.
If someone posts about struggling with their hair, maybe you know exactly what they're talking about.
That's how a little online community becomes an actual community.
And honestly, that's what I'd love this page to be.
Not just a place where I advertise appointments.
A place where we can talk about hair, laugh about the realities of having hair, share ideas, learn something new, and get to know each other a little better.
Because behind every appointment is a person.
And behind every local business is a person too.
So let's be social. π₯°
Comment.
Ask questions.
Tag your friends.
Share posts.
Recommend each other.
Say hello.
You never know who might be sitting quietly on the other side of the screen thinking...
"Hey, I know her!"
And maybe that little interaction turns into a new connection, a new friendship, or someone finally finding the hairstylist they've been looking for.
That's the good stuff.
So come on, you guys...
Don't be shy.
You already know each other. π
Let's make this little corner of the internet feel a little more like our community. π€
π€ Thank you for the kind words.
Every time a client tells me they loved their hair, sends me a message after their appointment, recommends me to a friend, or takes a moment to tell me how they felt about their experience, it honestly means so much.
And if you're willing to share those thoughts a little further, I'd be incredibly grateful. π₯°
You can leave me a Google review, share your experience on Yelp, or even give me a little shout out in your favourite local Rave Page.
It doesn't have to be long.
It doesn't have to be perfectly written.
Just tell people what you enjoyed about your experience.
Maybe you loved your haircut.
Maybe your colour turned out exactly how you hoped.
Maybe you finally found a style that feels easy.
Maybe you felt listened to.
Maybe you enjoyed having an hour to yourself.
Maybe you just had a really good conversation. βοΈβοΈ
Those little stories help people who are looking for a new hairstylist decide who they might feel comfortable booking with.
Because finding a hairstylist can feel a little bit like dating. π
You're trusting someone with your hair, your time, and sometimes a pretty big part of how you feel about yourself.
Hearing from someone who has already sat in my chair can make that first appointment feel a whole lot less intimidating.
And for a small, independent business like mine, those reviews and recommendations really do make a difference.
So thank you for every kind word you've shared with me, whether it was said in my chair, sent in a message, posted online, or passed along to a friend.
I appreciate it more than you know. π€
And if you've been thinking, "I really should leave her a review..."
This is your little nudge. π
Google, Yelp, or your favourite local Rave Page...
I'd love to hear what you think. β¨
β Your Google review might help someone more than you realize.
When you leave a review for my salon, you're not just telling me how your appointment went.
You're helping the next person who is searching for a hairstylist.
Think about the last time you tried a new business.
You probably looked at the reviews.
Did people feel welcome?
Did they like the service?
Was the experience worth it?
Would they go back?
When someone is searching for a hairstylist, they're often looking for more than a haircut.
They're looking for someone they can trust.
Someone who will listen.
Someone who understands their hair.
Someone who won't judge them when they say, "I have absolutely no idea what I want." π
That's where your review can make a difference.
Your experience can help someone who has never sat in my chair feel a little more comfortable taking that first step.
And your review can also help people discover a small local business they may not have found otherwise.
For an independent hairstylist, word of mouth is incredibly valuable.
A recommendation from a friend is wonderful.
A recommendation from a client who took a few minutes to share their experience online can reach someone who doesn't know you yet.
So if you've had an appointment with me and enjoyed your experience, I'd genuinely appreciate you taking a few minutes to leave a Google review. π€
You don't need to write an essay.
You don't need to find the perfect words.
Just tell people what you enjoyed.
Maybe it was the haircut.
Maybe it was the colour.
Maybe you finally understood how to manage your hair.
Maybe you felt listened to.
Maybe you just enjoyed the conversation and left feeling a little more confident.
Those little details matter.
Your review helps me, but more importantly, it helps someone else decide if Eden Salon might be the right fit for them.
And if you're a longtime client who has been coming to me for years...
Your review can be especially meaningful because you know what it's like to have a hairstylist who knows your hair and your history. π₯°
So thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to share their experience.
Every review, recommendation, comment, and referral means more than you probably realize.
And if you've been meaning to leave one...
This is your little reminder. π
β Your experience could be exactly what someone else needs to hear before booking their first appointment.
βοΈ "I need a change."
I hear this one a lot.
And honestly, I love hearing it because it's a great place to start a conversation.
But before we reach for the scissors or start talking about a completely new colour, I usually want to know...
What kind of change are you actually looking for?
Because "I need a change" can mean so many different things.
Maybe you're bored with your hair.
Maybe you're tired of styling it.
Maybe it feels too heavy.
Maybe the shape isn't working anymore.
Maybe your colour feels dull.
Maybe you're ready to see more of your natural colour.
Maybe you're growing it out.
Maybe you've had the same style for years and you're ready for something that feels more like who you are now.
Or maybe you don't actually want a big change at all.
Maybe you just want to look in the mirror and think...
"Ahhh. That's better." π€
That's why I ask questions.
How are you wearing your hair most days?
How often are you washing it?
Are you air drying or blow drying?
How much time do you realistically want to spend styling it?
What do you love about your hair right now?
What drives you crazy?
What have you tried before that worked?
What definitely didn't?
And probably one of my favourite questions...
What do you wish your hair did more easily?
Because sometimes the answer isn't a dramatic haircut.
Sometimes you don't need to lose six inches.
Sometimes you don't need a completely new colour.
Sometimes you just need the weight moved.
The shape refreshed.
The ends cleaned up.
A little more movement.
A different approach to styling.
Or maybe you really are ready for something completely different.
And that's okay too.
My job isn't to talk you into a change or talk you out of one.
It's to help you figure out what problem you're actually trying to solve.
You don't need to walk into my chair knowing the technical words.
You don't even have to know exactly what you want.
You can tell me what you don't like.
You can show me a picture and say, "I like this part."
You can say, "I have no idea. I just know I'm tired of this."
That's enough.
We'll start there.
Because the best hair decisions usually don't begin with:
"What haircut should I get?"
They begin with:
"What do I want to feel different?"
So the next time you catch yourself saying, "I need a change," pause for a second.
Ask yourself what you're really hoping will be different.
That answer might be more helpful than you think. π€
What Worked Before Might Not Work Now π€
One of the strangest things about hair is that sometimes the hairstyle you loved for years suddenly... doesn't work anymore.
And that doesn't necessarily mean there's something wrong with your hair.
You changed.
Your lifestyle changed.
Your routine changed.
Your hair changed.
Maybe you used to have an hour every morning to style your hair.
Now you have five minutes.
Maybe you used to wash it every other day.
Now you prefer to go longer between washes.
Maybe you used to love wearing it down.
Now you're constantly putting it into a ponytail or claw clip.
Maybe your job changed.
Maybe you retired.
Maybe you're more active than you used to be.
Maybe you're spending more time outdoors.
Maybe you simply don't have the patience for a high maintenance hairstyle anymore. π
And then there's the hair itself.
Texture can change.
Density can change.
Your natural colour changes.
Previous colour and chemical services can affect how your hair behaves.
Even the way your hair grows and falls can seem different over time.
So if the haircut that worked perfectly five or ten years ago suddenly feels frustrating...
You aren't failing at your hair.
It may just be time to rethink the relationship.
This is one of the reasons I don't believe in choosing a haircut based only on what looked good in the past.
I want to know what works now.
How do you wear your hair?
How much time do you have?
What do you still love?
What are you tired of doing?
What has become difficult?
What would make your mornings easier?
Sometimes the answer is a completely new haircut.
Sometimes it's a small adjustment.
Maybe we keep the length but change the shape.
Maybe we remove some weight.
Maybe we add movement.
Maybe we simplify the style.
Maybe we change the colour.
And sometimes we discover that the thing you thought needed changing isn't actually the problem at all.
Your hair doesn't have to keep up with who you were.
It should work for who you are now.
So if you're finding yourself thinking...
"Why doesn't my hair work anymore?"
Maybe the better question is:
"What does my hair need from me now?"
And that's a pretty good place to start a conversation. π€
π A New Season Doesn't Mean New Hair
September arrives and suddenly it feels like we're supposed to change everything.
New season.
New routine.
New wardrobe.
New goals.
And apparently... new hair. π
But who decided fall requires a transformation?
You don't automatically need darker colour just because the leaves are changing.
You don't need to cut your long hair short.
You don't need bangs.
You don't need a completely different style.
And you definitely don't need to change your hair just because everyone else is talking about fall hair trends.
Maybe you love your hair exactly as it is.
Maybe your summer colour still makes you happy.
Maybe you finally figured out how to work with your natural texture.
Maybe your current haircut is easy, comfortable, and feels like you.
Keep it. π€
And if something isn't working anymore, that's a different conversation.
Maybe your ends need a trim.
Maybe your haircut has lost its shape.
Maybe your colour needs refreshing.
Maybe your hair feels dry after a summer of sunshine, swimming, heat, and outdoor adventures.
Maybe you want a little more dimension without completely changing your colour.
Maybe you want your hair to feel polished without adding a whole lot of extra work to your routine.
Those are changes too.
They just don't have to be dramatic.
I actually think September is a great time to ask a different question.
Instead of:
"What new hairstyle should I get?"
Ask:
"What do I want my hair to do for me this season?"
Do you want it easier?
Healthier?
More manageable?
More polished?
More natural?
Maybe you want to spend less time styling it.
Maybe you want to wear it down more.
Maybe you're ready to grow it out.
Maybe you're finally ready to make a change.
Whatever the answer is, it should be about you, not the calendar.
Because your hair doesn't have to reinvent itself every season.
Sometimes the best fall hair is simply the hair you already love...
just refreshed. ππ€
So tell me:
Are you a new season, new hair person?
Or a same hair, just refreshed person?
π I'm curious!
π€ Some clients have been with me for 20+ years.
And every once in a while, I get a reminder of just how special that really is.
I've had clients sit in my chair for years and years.
I've watched them change hairstyles, colours, jobs, relationships, families, and seasons of life.
I've seen them through big changes and ordinary Tuesdays.
And somewhere along the way, a client can become so much more than someone whose hair I do.
They become part of the story of my career.
Recently, I had the absolute honour of being asked to do the hair for a client I've known since she was in elementary school.
Let that sink in for a minute. π₯Ή
I've known her for so many years that I can remember a time when she was just a kid.
And now I get to be part of an important moment in her life.
Those are the moments that make me stop and appreciate just how lucky I am to do what I do.
Being a hairstylist isn't only about hair.
It's about relationships.
It's about trust.
It's about getting to know someone over the years and watching their life unfold.
It's about remembering the haircut they had years ago.
Knowing how they like their hair to feel.
Knowing when they're ready for something completely different and when they just want the familiar.
It's about the conversations, the laughter, the stories, the celebrations, and sometimes simply having a safe place to sit for an hour.
And when someone you've known since childhood eventually trusts you to be part of one of their special moments...
That's something I don't take lightly.
I feel incredibly honoured.
Twenty plus years behind the chair has given me so many wonderful memories.
But honestly, some of my favourite parts of this career are the people I've met along the way.
The clients who started with me years ago.
The clients who have followed me through different chapters.
The clients who have trusted me with their hair through countless changes.
And the families who have grown right alongside my business.
I may be the one holding the scissors...
But my clients have given me so many of the stories that make my career what it is.
For that, I am incredibly grateful. π€
Here's to the clients who have been here for years, the ones I've met along the way, and all the memories still to come. βοΈπ₯°
π September Doesn't Need To Be A Reinvention.
There is something about September that makes us feel like we should change everything.
New season.
New routines.
New clothes.
New goals.
And sometimes that includes our hair.
Suddenly we start thinking...
"Maybe I should go darker."
"Maybe I should cut it all off."
"Maybe I need bangs."
"Maybe I need a completely new colour."
And hey, if you're ready for a big change, I'm here for it. βοΈ
But September doesn't automatically mean your hair needs to become something completely different.
Sometimes you don't need a reinvention.
You just need a refresh.
Maybe your summer colour has faded and needs a little love.
Maybe your ends are feeling dry after all the sunshine, swimming, heat, and outdoor adventures.
Maybe your haircut has lost its shape.
Maybe you want to take off a little length without losing the style you've grown to love.
Maybe your hair simply needs a little more moisture and some attention.
Or maybe...
You actually like your hair exactly the way it is.
That's okay too. π€
You don't have to change your hair because the calendar changed.
You don't have to go darker because fall is coming.
You don't have to cut it shorter.
You don't have to add bangs.
You don't have to chase a trend.
Your hair can still feel like summer.
It can be soft.
Light.
Bright.
Easy.
Natural.
You can keep what works and simply make it feel fresh again.
Because sometimes the best change is a small one.
A trim.
A reshape.
A colour refresh.
A little dimension.
A toner.
A treatment.
Or simply taking a few minutes to talk about what's working and what isn't.
That's one of my favourite parts of a consultation.
We don't have to start with, "What do you want to change?"
We can start with:
"What do you love about your hair right now?"
Then we figure out what, if anything, needs to be different.
Because your hair doesn't need to become a completely new version of you every season.
Sometimes it just needs to keep up with the version of you that's already here.
So as we head into September, remember...
π New season doesn't have to mean new hair.
Sometimes same hair, just refreshed is exactly the right choice.
Are you a seasonal hair changer or a "keep it, just refresh it" person? ππ€
