Meet Burdock! You're likely familiar with this "infamous" plant, but perhaps for the wrong reasons.
She is considered a "w**d", and indeed, she is very prolific. She is a biennial (growing in 2-year cycles).
Most people, know her burrs, which cling to clothes, hair, fur (and many other things!) easily.
What most people don't know, is how much medicine Burdock embodies.

Her root is rich in a prebiotic called inulin (soluble fiber), a phenomenal nurturer of the probiotic colonies in the microbiome. Check out the last picture to see the inulin content, settled at the bottom of a tincture bottle.

Her root also supports liver & kidney vitality, aiding these important organs in moving metabolic fluids and wastes.
Known as an alterative in western herbal medicine, she helps the body adapt, and shift back towards balance (homeostasis).
Burdock is a gentle, nurturing remedy, that carries the nurturing intelligence to help our bodies thrive.

Lastly (not really, cause so much more could be said about her!), Burdock is bear medicine. Bears understand her medicine, and tend to dig her up after hibernation - not only for her nutritive qualities, but also to help stimulate the metabolism, after months of laying around.
This is also highlighted in its botanical name, Arctium lappa. Arctium comes from the Greek arctos (ἄρκτος), meaning bear.

The Outaouais Herb Gathering is the perfect getaway to connect with nature, learn about her medicine, and connect with other plant enthusiasts and nature lovers. Camping Tickets available. I hope to see you there!

My good friend & fellow presenter Alberto- for the Outaouais Herb Gathering - talks about burdock here. Note, it’s not rhubarb if you’re looking for that this time of year! That would be quite the surprise 😅

Most plants are well into their winter skeletal form here - and admits all the brown, the Asters are like explosions of colour & activity. The bees are having their last feast, and I could watch them for hours.

Loving these full summer days among the flowers 🌼 I attended last year’s Outaouais Herb Gathering as a vendor & it was a deeply enriching time for healers and plant lovers to gather, learn, share, connect and celebrate. This year we are offering a full weekend schedule- workshops on Saturday, intensives on Sunday, alongside Friday & Saturday evening events that will feature musical entertainment and story telling as well much more. I’ll be teaching two workshops (Intro to Elemental Herbalism & Fresh Folk Tincturing), but there are so many amazing speakers and topics on the program. The summer will pass quickly, so reserve your tickets today and get this year’s Gathering on your calendar! All info can be found at: www.outaouaisherbgathering.com
