Carp's scenic backyard!

There's a rural path a bit of a ways behind the shop, where this familiar sleepy muddy river runs. Squirrels deftly crawl between either side using the folded over branches as bridges. Algae and moss cover every quiet corner they can cling to.

And of course there's the after-rain smell that no photo can capture. All these living things, playing out their own tiny stories and dramas in a cycle of decay and renewal.

Ahem... but before you start building your winter fat stores this Thanksgiving, be sure to come see Deb and I at the shop. We're open Saturday and Sunday, and then back on Tuesday.

A couple of years ago I went garage sale-ing in Kinburn, ended up picking up a few odds and ends, mostly to decorate the barbershop.

About a year later, one of the gentlemen I visited showed up at the shop with a box and a bag. I posted the box contents already, it was a lovely set of vintage army tanks and cannons (toys, obviously... don't get too concerned). I hadn't gotten to the bag though.

This generous man also gave us several volumes, detailed accounts of battles fought by the Canadian Forces.

You can check out this particular hardcover at the shop! It's an account of the the treacherous river battles the Canadian military was fighting on the Italian front in the Second World War during the final days of the European theatre.

It's a privilege to live somewhere that looks like a postcard!

Doing more extracurriculars in Dunrobin today so I had to snap this one on the way.

Life certainly is a 180 from just 5 years ago living in the middle of the city. If circumstances were any different I might have never had my own shop at all. Wouldn't have bothered without knowing there was a supportive community of familiar faces.

So in the end, maybe some things do turn out right 😊

Could you believe I came up with that without using AI? The scary part is, some day people might not be able to come up with anything without AI...
..and though we can't fix kids these days, we can fix their hair. So, bring the whole family! All ages/genders at Giacinto's Barbershop, West Carleton's most fabulous family friendly fixers of hair!!

Today's photo is... our patented glowing text box! Being from the city, I've always been a HUGE sucker for the colorful lights at night, and I refuse to grow up. Or unable.

Working on new stuff! We just got a dedicated colour processing chair (a fancy way of saying a place you sit while the chemicals do their thing)

The more eagle eyed of you will recognize it from our CHEO fundraiser at The Covered Bridge Brewing Company Inc. a couple weeks back. Since we have to store them until next year's event, I thought we might as well put it to use!
