I loved everything about my grandmother.
I never looked at her and thought - if only she looked younger, had less wrinkles and smoother skin.

Today is Vyshyvanka Day. A holiday celebrating and preserving the traditional Ukrainian vyshyvanka (embroidered clothing). On this day, Ukrainians around the world proudly wear their vyshyvanka.
A vyshyvanka is so much more than an embroidered garment. It is our history, our identity, our pride, and the heartbeat of our culture carried through generations. Every technique, pattern, stitch and colour tells a story of resilience, love, family, and home.
In our family, we grew up wearing vyshyvanky lovingly made by our Babusia (grandmother). Yes, that’s little Laryssa and Oresta. From childhood, vyshyvanky were worn at family holiday gatherings, church and Ukrainian school celebrations.
No matter where Ukrainians live in the world, the vyshyvanka connects us to one another and to our roots. It reminds us of the strength, courage, and spirit of the Ukrainian people.
