Why I became a stylist …

I didn’t start out my career in this business… I am a former Child and Youth Worker turned hairstylist!

In the beginning of 2013, I was working in the social service field as a home visitor/parent educator for young parents. I began to question the longevity of the career path I’d chosen. Then with the passing of two uncles, a young client and my father I took some time off to decide next steps. I’d been working one day a week in a salon as an assistant and knew it was something I wanted to pursue but also had two young children at home. A very dear friend, my hairstylist, my mentor, Leslie extraordinaire told me I was doing the wrong job!!!! And offered to teach me. In 2014 I took classes in her salon each morning and worked the afternoons in the salon. I took practical and written exams as part of her curriculum but also through St Lawrence College. In 2017 I passed my red seal exam and became a licensed stylist.

The years I spend working in the social services will never be lost. I met and worked with some amazing people at various stages of life and struggle. But I truly believe it’s made me the woman, mom, friend and stylist I am today !
