I’m not going to tell you one hour changes your life. It doesn’t. But I’ve watched what happens when
somebody stops treating rest like a reward, and it isn’t small.

The tell is that they apologize. For booking. For the state they’re in. For not coming sooner, like they’re behind on something they should have handled weeks ago.

Nobody apologizes for booking a haircut.

And it’s almost always the person everybody else depends on. They’ve spent so long being the one who handles it that an hour with nothing to handle feels like it needs an excuse.

Somebody tells me to go as hard as I possibly can before I’ve even put a hand on them, and I already know how the hour is going to go. Not because they’re wrong to ask. Somebody taught them that, probably
more than one somebody.

But then they spend the whole hour tensing against me. I’m working, they’re resisting, and we’re both just
busy.
