C-Section Badass 🌱
This is hours after I had my daughter, Lucy. My son, Charlie, was over the moon to meet his new little sister. This is raw, unedited emotion and it brings me to tears every time I see it.
I have had 2 C-Sections now, one unplanned and one scheduled. Two completely different experiences. Charlie was a stubborn baby. I labored with him for an entire day, full on contractions, 10 cm dilated and then at the last minute he flipped OP or sunny-side up. For those of you who don't know what that means, he flipped his whole position so his head was now facing my stomach and his back was facing my posterior pelvis. This is not a position to deliver comfortably and after many attempts to flip him, we decided ultimately it would be traumatic on my body to deliver vaginally so opted for a section. After having 1 belly birth, the chances of me having a second OP baby were high. I was monitored more regularly and Lucy was a bigger baby on ultrasounds and growing faster. I had a lot more pelvic pain and my pelvic floor often felt like it might give out at any moment. I chose with the help of my OB and family doctor, to have a c-section early for ease of delivery and protection of my own body and my daughter's. Showing up on a scheduled morning, baby in my arms in 4 hours was very different needless to say. Recovery took a little longer, there was more scar tissue from my first recovery but very similar otherwise.
Although both my pregnancies were very different, I had two 9 lb babies 🤯 and they are both thriving. I am working through my own recovery daily and seeing steady progress 💪.
I was terrified to have a belly birth, but I assure you it is manageable and you will recover!
What were your c-sections like if you have had one? What would you say to other moms that are scared of having a section?
Yours in health,
Dr. Jill🌱

Cesarean Myths💗
Needing a belly birth, whether elective or not, is a scary feeling.
C-sections are major abdominal surgery and the recovery can be challenging.
It is difficult to cough, sit up unassisted, walk and hold your baby.
Every laugh is a reminder of how a tiny human was delivered through 9 layers of abdominal tissues and stitched back together, while you are awake.
All Mamas are pretty badass, but for the record, no birth is easy and one is not better or easier than the other.
To my fellow mom community, keep shining and don't forget how incredible your body is. Give yourself love and grace in this era 💕.
Yours in health,
Dr. Jill🌱

CLINIC UPDATE ⭐️
It is with great excitement that I announce I am moving my practice full time to Kawartha Family Chiropractic in Peterborough 👩⚕️💚
This was not an easy decision, and believe me, my husband and I spoke at great lengths on when would be the right time to close my Lindsay chapter. We live in Peteborough, and our son is going to go to school in Peterborough, so we feel that this is the right time to make the transition.
I have met so many incredible patients, coworkers, health professionals, and friends on my 5 year journey in Lindsay, and I am forever grateful. A special thank you to .sims.dc for helping me follow my heart and growing Lindsay Chiropractic and Wellness into such a beautiful space.
In terms of what this means for patients, Dr. Sims will be taking over my patients who are looking to stay in Lindsay. If you would like to join me in Peterborough, you are more than welcome to do so as well!
My last day at Lindsay Chiropractic and Wellness will be July 31st. So please book your appointments promptly as they are filling in quickly.🗓
More information will be coming over the next few days outlining more details.
Thank you for your continued support, understanding, and love.
You mean the world to me,
Dr. Jill 🌱

KIDDOS 🌱⭐️
I get asked all the time, "Why would I bring my kids to the chiropractor?" Or pure surprise."Wow! You treat babies?😮"
The short answer is absolutely.
Chiropractic care is more than dealing with your aches and pains. The nervous system is the electrical system of our bodies and needs regular tune ups. If your electrical system isn't firing properly, then you start to see our body function less effectively. This can present in many different warning lights, and most of the time, it isn't pain.
It can impact feeding, gut and immune systems, motor milestones, emotional regulation, focus during learning, mental health, and so many more things.
If this sounds like your child, send me a DM or call the clinic in my bio for a free complimentary consult ☎️

My philosophy and treatment approach 👩⚕️
It occurred to me this week that finding the right chiropractor is a lot like finding the right hairdresser. Sometimes, you have to try a few before you find the person who just gets you and shares your vision 💁♀️.
So I thought since there's lots of new friends on here, I would share a little bit about Jill, the chiropractor today.
These are my mantras, and I stand by them.
1. Active listener👂
I want to hear your story. Tell me everything, start to finish. You should feel heard, don't ever worry about word vomiting. It's my job to tease through what information is pertinent to our treatment plan. I don't expect you to have all the answers, but I do ask you to give me as much information about your health as you can even if you don't think it matters.
2. Checking in 💕
I will often ask how you're doing throughout treatment. It's not because I'm not confident in my treating style, I am, it's because I want you to feel comfortable and confident too. I will often send check in emails to see how you're doing, there's no pressure but your health is important to me.
3. Opportunity to Ask Questions❓️
If you don't ask, you don't know. There are absolutely no dumb questions. I will happily make time to thoroughly answer your questions, whether that's a phone call, an email, or a few minutes at the end of treatment. Never feel guilty for wanting more clarity.
4. Making You an Active Role in Our Treatment Plan🏃♀️
I enjoy your company, but typically as your health improves, I progressively see you less and less. For treatment to work, you need to be actively engaged and participating. That means being consistent with your appointments, doing those exercises, and communicating with me about what you're comfortable with regards to care. I want to see you succeed and in order to do that we need to work as a team.
I'm not everyone's cup of tea, but I try really hard to be compassionate and honest.
If my approach resonates with you, I'd love to work with you!

In the spirit of first day of school...🏫🍎✏️
BACKPACKS 🎒
This is my public service announcement for parents to check on their kids' backpacks!
Tips for proper backpacks
1. Lightweight material with shoulder and backpack padding 🎒
2. Ideally, chest and waist straps to alleviate the bag falling down their back. Tighten the straps so the bottom of their backpack is above their bum as well 👌
3. Don't pack it too heavy. Their bag should only weigh 10-15% of their body weight. Also try to evenly distribute the weight through different pockets where possible
4. Don't forget your lunch!! 🍎🤣

CUSTOM ORTHOTICS 👞
5 Reasons to Consider Custom Orthotics
1. Chronic Foot Pain 🤯
Common foot ailments such as bunions, arthritis, plantar fasciitis, neuroma, etc.
2. Standing on Your Feet for Long Periods of Time😴
Individuals who stand on their feet all day long for work, such as nurses, factory workers, people who wear dress shoes and high heels, and work boots for construction, for example, can all benefit
3.Low Back or Hip Pain🚶♀️
Depending on where your low back or hip pain is developing from, orthotics can help with better posture alignment and comfort
4. Diabetic Neuropathy⚡️
A common symptoms that develops with diabetes in neuropathy ( nerve irritation, numbness or tingling). Orthotics can help provide stability, safety from objects not felt under the feet and balance.
5. Less Pressure on the Knee Joints 🧎♂️
Orthotics can help improve alignment of the feet and ankles to alleviate pressure on the knees ( great for arthritis)!
If you think Orthotics may be the right fit for you, send me a DM or call the clinic listed in my bio ☎️
