McDonald's Hair Unlimited

I just realized the date May 4th. It was 80 years ago today that my Grandfather Edgar McDonald did a thing. He took a risk after coming home from the war. He opened a beauty salon which was what it was called in 1946. It changed names a couple of times. Jane Ann after my Mom LJ Ann. No pressure for her to get trained after high school.
Having a young family he and my Grandmother worked long hours back then. They lived at the back of the salon 443 George Street. After Mom purchased the salon McDonald’s Hair Unlimited settled here at 675 George Street.
What a pleasure thinking back that I was fortunate to work with my Mom, Grandmother Helen, and Aunt Rochelle for many years.

Ronald Lauder is the billionaire heir of Estée Lauder companies. He is a Trump ally who has give millions to him ($6 mil in 2025) and planted the idea that we ‘need’ Greenland for America in his buddy’s head. Lauder has investments in Greenland and has written op ed pieces about this, never considering the native people who have lived there for generations, or the fact that it’s part of a NATO ally’s territory. Hope ever is ok after this past weekend’s storm. I am still without power, so am closed until the power is restored and the inside temp and water warms back up again.

I didn’t get to see this first hand today.

What a year it has been. Tuesday May 4th 2021 marks 75 years in business. So no big fan fare this year with the lockdown . Just knowing that on this day many years ago my Grandparents Edgar and Helen McDonald had a dream. Assuming not knowing it would evolve to a third generation hair salon.
What a wonderful legacy I am a part of. Thanks to them and my Mom Ann, and all the Family and friends that have supported us this many years.
