I’ve stopped smoothing my videos because I like my face, wrinkles and all. I’m a makeup artist and cosmetic tattooist, and I love what I do. This isn’t about not doing those things. It’s about how we talk to ourselves when we’re bare-faced and natural. Your face, your choices, always. Botox, makeup, none of it, whatever makes you feel like you.

But let’s be kinder to ourselves, because someone little is probably listening.

The ring light — probably one of the most popular tools in the beauty industry these days.

Obviously, they’re great for content creators and getting a decent selfie, but for me, it’s actually one of the most important tools in the room when I’m tattooing.

When you’re working this close to someone’s face, there can be quite a few things that get in the way of seeing what you’re doing properly — your own shadow, the client’s natural brow hair, even just the angle you’re working from.

So being able to see every little detail clearly is really important.

I’ve definitely started a procedure once or twice and forgotten to turn the light on. 😂 It doesn’t take very long before I realise something isn’t quite right.

The whole appointment is based around being able to see the skin up close, so good lighting is pretty non-negotiable.

And yes, I do warn my clients that the ring light is a bit of a stinger if you look directly at it.

But honestly, that’s probably the perfect time to close your eyes, relax and have a little rest while I get to work.

Soft and defined powder brows.

My client has very light natural brow hair and wanted a little more definition, but nothing heavy or overly made-up.

So that’s exactly what we went for — a soft, defined brow that gives her face a bit more structure while still working with her natural colouring.

This is one of my favourite things about powder brows. They don’t have to be bold to make a difference.

If you have very fair or light brows and find they disappear without makeup, a soft powder brow can give you that definition without feeling like you’ve suddenly got a completely different face.

I really enjoy working on mature skin because it makes me think a little differently about how I approach the treatment.

It’s always a bit of a balancing act — I want enough saturation to get the result we’re after, but I don’t want to overwork the skin to get there.

I’m really happy with how these came out fresh, and now we leave them alone and see how they settle.

I’ll be keeping a close eye on these ones. 👀

So... can I go to the gym after my PMU appointment?

Do I recommend smashing out a hot yoga class or a sweaty HIIT workout the next morning? Probably not!

When I give my clients aftercare advice, I’m never trying to make your life difficult. I’m simply trying to give your brows the very best chance of healing beautifully.

After your appointment, your skin is working hard to heal. The pigment is settling into the skin, tiny micro-scabs are forming and your body is beginning its natural healing process.

Excessive sweating can interfere with that process.

Think of it this way—for the first few days, I want your brows to live their best, boring little lives.

No sweating, no rubbing and no unnecessary drama!

Skipping a workout or two is a small price to pay when you’ve invested in your brows and want them to heal as beautifully as possible.

And if you’re anything like me and are already wondering when you can get back to the gym, don’t worry—it’s only temporary.
