Early in my career, I took a haircutting class where another hairstylist recommended a little book called Steal Like an Artist by Austin Kleon.
Creativity has always been a huge part of my life-not just behind the chair, but in almost everything I do. Hair, sewing, thrifting, designing a space, building a businessā¦ I thrive most when Iām in a creative element.
Something Iāve always loved about this book is the idea that inspiration is everywhere. Weāre constantly seeing things we love, learning from other people, collecting ideas and then finding ways to make them our own.
I think thatās such a huge part of being creative-being inspired, experimenting and putting your own spin on things.
So I pulled together a few of my favourite reminders from Steal Like an Artist for anyone else who feels most like themselves when theyāre creating.

New favourite combination unlocked!
We were looking to working with this clients natural grey, not against it.
As she grows out her grey, the goal was simply to make the transition feel softer and easier without creating unnecessary damage or something that required frequent salon visits.
We strategically placed a few fine babylights in selected areas to soften the contrast and help everything blend more naturally as her grey continues to grow in.
A little colour in the right places can make the grow-out feel a whole lot easier.

Lauren, my bookkeeper, is the best. She keeps me organized, keeps the numbers making sense, and lets me keep my energy where it belongs ā on the creative side of the business.
Could I learn to do my own bookkeeping? Probably.
Will I? Respectfully, no. š
